Is this shedding behavior?

I notice my corns skin was starting to shed. This is her second shed since I've owned her (ive owned her about 4 months.) The first shed I never even noticed her doing it, but awoke to her shed skin. This time I see it shedding on the mid body sides, however shes acting very strange. I understand she would need to rake up and twist around in the chips and against the log to loosen the skin, but shes also pressing her nose VERY hard against the glass wall which seems to be doing NOTHING for the shedding process. She's also occasionally jerking her head back and opening her mouth wide. Are these frequent shedding behaviors..?

the pressing of the nose onto the glass i would say is very normal, as we know the physical shedding process starts at the mouth. When its pressing its face to the glass its looking for a point, something to catch and latch its shedding skin onto so it can be pulled off more easily

I'd say the same

When I am able to catch my corn shedding (normally wake up to it), I do see the nose against the glass behavior. Also they definately become more active and aren't as prone to stay in their hides as often as when they are not shedding. Mine flies around the cage and scrapes against his rock as well as log. I've never seen the yawning habit or the opening of the mouth except after feeding so that I couldn't be sure about. I'd use the search feature on the site, might help. Also google's always my best friend when I can't find answers here, plenty of other people who post faq's or guides about corn care that are not members of this site. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable on the matter will be along shortly.

Yep, that is definatly normal shedding behavior. Milenko normally uses the sides of her water bowl. What she is doing is loosening the old skin around her lips so that she can simply slide out of it.

I noticed in the first post that you said you didn't know your corn was about to shed. There are a few signs but the most obvious is the cloudy eyes.

Do you raise the humidity in the tank during the shedding process?? With mine, as soon as I notice the cloudy eyes I spray the tank with clean water and also soak the substrate over the heat mat with water to create condensation. This does make it hard to see through the glass but believe me, the snake will thankyou for it if they could.

Hope I've helped, if not just post again and either me or a more experienced person will be gald to help. :)

The first shed was right when I bought her so I didn't know about that, but regardless it doesn't seem to make a difference since she's albino. Her eyes are always red and don't really seem to change color pre or post shed.

Does this mean she's shedding from the middle? Is there old skin still on the upper body between the nose and mid body? Usually the shed starts at the nose and travels down towards the tail. Keep an eye on her to make sure ALL the old skin is removed, especially the EYE CAPS.

My snake's eyes don't change that much either. But her skin does. The reds develop into a purple color. In the link below, you'll see her coloring before and after shed.

Yeah it did start from the nose one. The sides were just ripped from her curling up, twisting, and raking up against the log.

My okeetee is doing the same exact thing... only on my hand. I thought he was trying to stand on his head. He was pushing so hard his neck muscles were quivering. Then he would stop and yawn really big. Funniest darn thing I have seen in awhile. I tried getting a picture but I am not that coordinated. LOL :crazy02:

OK I guess when this guy decides to shed he is all over it. I went back to check on him and found a perfect shed in his cage.
