It was just a MOMENT.

It was feeding time tonight for the babies and I set out the pinkies
And I just.. had a moment...
For some reason all the babies were
just.
calm.
tonight... And I wondered how often people that have big breeding operations ever just stop, and marvel at what amazing creatures these are. How often do they stop and remember what the first times were like?

I opened a cage... and this trusting little amel girl just climbs out onto my hands... wrapped around fingers and just sitting there while I stare at her, she's not a tiny tiny hatchling, but she's still small, and perfect scales layer down her body, each in symmetry with the ones around it - such amazing details.

I put the pinky in, place her back in, and go to the next one... They are all very calm tonight, it seems odd but very nice..

I open up a cup and find my normal girl about to shed, literally the beginnings of the shed peeling at her lips. I put in a handful of paper shreds to help her and put the lid back on.... and watch in fascination as she does a complete and perfect shed.. I check her over in her bright new colors, then put a pinky in with her and just watch her eat.. It's entrancing...

And Netsuke, my tessera girl, she crawls over my hands, and up my arm, exploring. I put the fuzzy in her container, and (like I usually do, let her crawl back off my hands into the cage at her pace) She pauses as she's moving and notices the meal..... And while still hanging on my hands, begins to eat... She trusts me that much (or doesn't care).. I just sit there and watch.

I guess it sounds stupid, but this was just a kinda magical moment.

Nancy, that is lovely! It is rare when the stars (or snakes!) align, but I share your wonderment and excitement when things like that happen. I love recalling experiences like that and when each snake was new to me, I think that's why we can't stop with just one!

Thanks for the experience!
