I just realized yesterday that today would be the anniversary of bringing home my first snakes! So I thought I'd do a little update on my scale-family.
A year after acquiring my first two corns I am still as obsessed as ever, and still learning new things constantly. It's hard to learn from research alone when you don't know what you don't know. I have learned so much from actually having snakes that reading and researching could not have taught me. And you guys have been an amazing resource along the way. Thank you!!
I also realized that if I had only brought home one snake, it would have done it's snake thing and I would have loved it and that would have been great. I thought a snake was a snake and they were all pretty much the same. Boy was I wrong!! But because I brought home two right off the bat, I immediately learned that they are *individuals* with *personalities* and that led to me wanting more. And since they are SO easy, more is exactly what I got! It turns out that snakes are the perfect pet for me.
I'm now in love with (in a totally non-creepy and well-adjusted way :laugh
5 corns, one African house snake, and nearly came home with a tri-color hognose last month. After losing sleep for 3 days, the cost of that one eventually convinced me to say no. I do, however, finally feel ready for something potentially a little more bitey, but something I've wanted from the beginning:
an anaconda. :sidestep:
Just kidding!! I'm currently shopping for a 50/50 banded california kingsnake, which I chickened out on in the beginning because I wasn't ready to deal with a snake that might be trying to chew on me on a regular basis. Now it just doesn't scare me anymore.
From 0 to 7 snakes in just over a year... it's been a really fun adventure! Now I can't wait to watch them grow up and see them through their lives.
