i just got ha new cornsnake not too long ago and every time i try to pick him up he coils up and starts rattleing his tail like a rattle snake then he starts hissing or spitting im not sure which one then he bites he is verry eggressive and i know if i just ceep handleing and dont jump when he bites he will eventually get use to me i was just wandering if anyone has experienced any simmilar behavior with the rattleing and spittung??

yep, little ones rattle and hiss to warn you big scary hand away. If you want to, use gloves until he calms down. Also, you are supposed to let them have a week to settle in, then feed them, then wait two days until handling for the first time after getting a new snake. He may be stressed from the move.

yea i had him for li 8 days now and was going to feed him today and i wanted too hold him first cuz id have too wait a couple of days to hold him aggain and i have another cornsnake and a ball python ive just never seen one that agressinve

Some are just like that. Some have higher fear responses than others. Just let him settle in and as he grows he'll calm down a little for you.

A lot of folks recommend keeping the holding to a minimum. Better to let it eat and grow with as little added stress as possible. There'll be plenty of time to get used to each other after 3-6 months of a good start. Other's say go ahead and handle as much as the snake will tolerate (abiding to the after eating ban, of course). I'm somewhere in between. My little ones get handled to be fed every 5 days, and once again at day 3 after meals for a water change, poop spot cleaning and 5 minute check-up.

Our little cobra corn is very tolerant now...only a couple months after having him home. UNLESS he is hungry or in a shed cycle:uhoh:

If you have a light colored little one it is harder to tell when they go blue...which also contributes to their defensiveness...
ie. can't see well must protect self:)

I have no idea if this really worked or just coincidence. But I wore thin cotton knit gloves to handle him (I was lees jumpy:)) then I would leavr the gloves in the enclosure with him. Others have suggested all kinds of things so they get used to your scent:shrugs:

He'll calm down...unless he is an Oketee or Blood or Creamsicle:laugh01:
(Just kidding)

What's his name?
Relax and he will too:)
