Joining the club! Snake bite :)

Science nerd, Art nerd
Hooray! I can finally join the snake bite club! I was cleaning cages this morning when my female anery got a sniff of the backside of my fingers and nabbed me. She wrapped all the way around me and even gave me a good squeeze. Surprisingly she just hung on there and tried to eat me for a little bit! But i will say, its true! It doenst really hurt, even when they are on there really tight! I would say washing the cut hurt more than the actual bite!

I felt bad for her because she did loose a few teeth ): I didnt try to pull away or anything but her head was stuck under one of her coils and it was a really wide bite, so as she wriggled out they kinda just popped out! They grow back (right?)?!? So im leaving her a lone for a little bit and it honestly makes me a little curious. Aside from being hungry what could have set her off? Was it the hair backside of my nuckles :p lol I could see someone mistaking that for a fuzzy. hah

Its the first time shes done this and i couldnt actually see her being hungry? But i suppose she could have mistaken me for food. It wasnt an aggressive strike it was def a food strike, it included the coil and the stalk for a moment.

any who! Enjoy! :D I was pretty proud and now im showing it off!

You probably just startled her. It`s a natural defense.. Next time grab her right away before she knows what`s happening..

I wonder about the defense vs hungry, because she tried to constrict my hand and kill it. If i moved my hand at all she would adjust and tighten, or if i touched her she would just bite down and squeeze. I got her as she let go and did the "looking for the head" move. A swift pillow case and back in she went :) ....either way it wasnt that bad hah.

Ohhh My! I can't wait! haha I am not really afraid of the biting, I just want to get it over with so I know what to expect!

I had my first bite the other day too. And it was from the nicest little snake I have. He got me three times actually. I'm sure he was just hungry. After the third time he figured out I wasn't edible and gave up. Then I fed him.

Comparing the bite to being attacked by angry velcro is very accurate. Anyhow, CONGRATS!

well congratulations on your induction to the most prestigious club!! lol

i love the "blood spatter" at the end

to whoever said you just want to get it over with to know what to expect...you'll never know what to expect, it will ALWAYS startle you when you get bit, or even struck at!

most bites i receive are more like "whoa, did you really just do that?" more than "OUCH!"

Congrats on joining the club!

I believe you may possibly be referring to a post I made not too long ago. What I was suggesting when I made that statement is "what kind of pain to expect/what being bit is like."

Of course as you suggest, and so many others here, its not anything to fret about!

Totally a feeding bite. I got about three bites from Lily last night for the first time ever- she was determined to eat anything warm. I finally had to hold her by the neck (and the rest of her body) on the way to the scale- she wouldn't stop trying to eat me! My hands definitely smelled like mice.

My anery bit me again too. It was so fast she bit and yanked away leaving one tooth in my thumb. I still picked her up out of the tank. She nose bumped me when I changed out her water last night. She's still the only snake to bite me and I've handled hundreds of them, mostly wild ones.

Okay...now she wont stop it! She wants to eat me non stop! She just about tagged me again today but shes doing the slow nose rub. I dont know what to do! The bites really dont hurt but she wedges her face between my fingers then chomps down! She coils an grinds her teeth in too. Shes determined to get me! Should i just handle her more? I use hand sanitizer all over when i go to handle them and even put paper on top of her before i go to take her out so she doesnt see me coming.
