Just a couple questions

okaye i have two cornsnakes, supposedly they are female and male (hopefully) they are about 5 months old almost 6 and i just have a couple questions that i have been pondering for a while. I have noticed that ppl are saying it is not good to keep two corn snakes together?? is this true and why. What about mating when should i expect for this to happen and is it okaye if i am keeping the male and female together (i feed seperatly). They are currently eating pinkies and i feed them the largest pinkies that the pet store has to offer but when should i switch over to fuzzies? I was thinking about getting an albino corn snake also but would it be alright if i mix breeds? I dont' know what breed i have but i know they arn't albino. Also i heard that snakes hybernate? If so when do they usually do it. Another thing i heard was that u could feed a snake uip to 3 times a week. Whats the difference between feeding a snake 1-2-3 times a week( mine are feed once weekly). Does the snake grow bigger faster? Also if the snakes mate then would it be easier to buy or make an incubator? any comments would be much appreciated if you need pictures to help then let me know.

It is suggested that you do not keep your corns together because they may fight, and especially young corns are fully capable of canabalism. Also, if you do have a male and a female, it is possible that they can breed before it is healthy for the female, this could cause a variety of problems, including death to the female.

When/if you breed the snakes they should be put together after you have brumated them (although brumation is not always necessary for breeding) for a short period of time, and then separated again. I personally have not bred any of my snakes yet, so I dont have a lot of information here.

You should switch your snakes over to fuzzies when the largest middle part of your snake is about 2/3 the size of the fuzzy. I would suggest moving up to feeding 2 pinkies for a while before feeding fuzzies, just to see how the snakes handle a larger meal. Feeding your snake once a week is fine, although hatchlings may be fed every 3-5 days. Yes, it makes them grow faster, but once your snake is eating fuzzies, you should back off to once per week. Obesity can be a problem in snakes.

There are different color morphs and patterns, but for the most part they are all the same "breed" or species. Creamsicles result from a cross between the corn snake species (Elaphe guttata guttata) and the rat snake species (Elaphe guttata emoryi). Breeding an Amelanistic (Albino) corn to whatever you have will just reult in different colors. If you post pics, people may be able to help you with what morphs your snakes are.

Snakes hybernate in the winter when it is cold. In captivity it is referred to as brumation. Again this is a breeding topic I cant give you a ton of information about.

I recommend that you purchase the Corn Snake Manual by Bill and Kathy Love. It has the answers to many of your questions.

I also recommend that you separate your snakes. If they are indeed a male/female pair, then you are putting the female's life at risk by keeping them together. If they breed too early (which shouldn't be before the female is 3 feet long and about 300 grams), then she could get egg bound. This is a serious problem and can be fatal to the snake.

I agree with the once a week feeding as soon as your snake is on fuzzies. When feeding pinkys, I typically feed every 5 days.
