Hiya everyone. I am fairly new to owning corns, got my first in late April (Vivian, F Charcoal motley het for hypo, 1 y/o) and then my second in May (Aiden, M Orange Creamsycle, 5months). I had initailly got V just for a pet but after doing some more in depth research I decided I wanted to try some genetic breeding stuff with her and got Aiden. And am now playing the waiting game for them to grow up :3

pics are when they were 3 months (Aiden) and 6 months (V)

Welcome to the forum! Who did you get your critters from? Your Charcoal Mot appears to have been labelled incorrectly. Just so you know, Creamsicles are hybrids and all their offspring should be labelled as such too.

Hey welcome Fox (can I call you Fox?)! You have some nice looking snakes there.

In the snake lingo the shorthand for one male is 1.0, short hand for one female is 0.1 and short hand for unknown is 0.0.1. The numbers change to indicate how many there are. This confused me for a while till someone very nicely explained it to me. I hadn't found the FAQ explaining it at the time.

A creamsicle is a hybrid snake between an amel corn and an emoryi rat snake. Of course some have been crossed with corn snakes so much you'd never know they were hybrids. One that doesn't have the orange coloring is called a Rootbeer. Any offspring from it should be correctly labeled, so the buyers know there is some emoryi in the snakes background.

Didn't mean to preach at ya, just wanted you to know more about your snakes.

Thanks for all the info, I don't mind when people 'preach' to me cause it is just one way to learn more :) I do know about the numbering for male and female but I have so many nonsnake pets (cats dogs, ferret)that I just naturally put m or f ^^; I will try to keep to the 1.0 and 0.1 on this site.

And thanks for letting me know about my cream, I knew they were corn mixed with a different snake but I didn't know the name. And mainly breeding for a hobby/myself cause genetics are facinating but if I do end up selling any I will keep that in mind :)

And V was a rescue but her previous owner said she got her from TwinCities Reptile. Aiden was from Leaping Lizards (a small reptile store in burnsville)

Welcome to this site it is a great place. Also V looks like a anery and no motley she doesnt have the clear belly and saddle patterns still a great looking snake. Good Luck and 2 will turn into 4 and then to 8 and next thing you know your building a snake room bigger then ur house!

Thanks for being so understanding Fox!

You'll find that there are some very good deals here on corns (and other snakes!) Of course check out the BOI before buying from anyone, even from here, so you know the rep of the person you're buying from. Still, you can get some great deals here.

Then, you'll find that 4 hatchlings will usually ship for the same cost as one, so you get 4 and then you find that other one you're looking for, but end up getting 4, due to the shipping, and then ... you discover you have lots of neat snakes, so then you start mice colonies, and of course, if you're raising mice, you may as well have pretty ones, so ..... it never ends and is lots of fun!

Enjoy!
