Today after visiting my reptile store for 2 pinkies for my corn snakes and them not having the lid for the 20 gallon long, I ordered it. I decided to go to another store that I remembered had reptiles and other stuff. When I arrived I was upheld by the asshole that owns that store. Sorry for my language. 3 Leopard geckos together, 1 newborn, one that was like 4-5 inches. The big one will prolly eat the small one cuz they are prolly not even fed. On SAND + fecal matter 75% of the sand. Leopard geckos under 6 inches suffer from impaction when placed on sand, they eat it for calcium (instincts) and the sand blocks there intestine and then they die 99% of the time) I saw a snake think it was a gopher snake or a albino milk snake or something and it was SOOOOOOOOO dehydrated Like i mean I was looking at the spine, nothing else. it was a triangle with the sides of the triangle bent inward. I felt so bad. I went to the lady at the cashier register and told her, you know you have a dying snake over there? She just looks at me, and then I say he isn't being well treated and the loser told me WELL that snake has an illness. THEN TAKE IT TO A VET!, MONKEY! I was so furious that I left I thought i was going to reach over and hit the lady or something. The manager is some loser 50-60 year old with long hair. Was staring at me as i left. I stared back. Now what should I do? i was thinking of telling my reptile store but what would they do, or what do they have to do with the situation. I dont want to get involved with any legal stuff cuz im only 17. Can I call a # or something In my area?

If you're in Britain, report them to the RSPCA. If you're in the US then there must be some authority you can report them to. You won't get involved in any legal stuff if you do this and they'll go round and inspect the place and, if what you say is true, close it down. I've reported a pet shop in Nottingham to the RSPCA and all I had to do was make the phone call and the place doesn't exist any more.
Good Luck.

Ok kewl

kewl, the place has fishes and rabbits and stuff and those are all well kept, but nOOOOO lets not take care of the reptiles.

You see...

That's why there are all these activists groups campaigning to get the keeping of reptiles banned. If everyone who kept reptiles actually looked after them there would be no problem. What these groups should really be targetting is the keeping of animals in zoos- these animals really are abused. Slightly off topic but still very important.

So, do you live in America? If you do, I'm sorry I couldn't help further by giving you contact details for the RSPCA equivelant but I could help you out if you live in the UK.

yikes
i'm sure if you browse online you could find a number to the local animal society or something.
Also, spread the word all over the place about that store's care of their reptile.

You can report them to the ASPCA. They have a website: aspca.org that will help you know what to do, and how to do it!

that makes me so mad!

i cant believe that anyone could treat there pets or any animal left in there care like that.
Why r there so many assholes in this world??
REPORT THEM NOW
ALL OF THEM

Thats so horrible, I hate people that mistreat animals. Although I just thought I'd point out that keeping leos on sand isnt a crime. I keep mine on sand/calcisand substrate and they are fine. Just standing up for us sand users!! lol

Yeah

Don't mean to sound evil or anything but I've had no problems with calci-sand. Maybe normal sand causes impaction but I haven't had a single problem with using calcium substrate- it's actually supposed to be eaten in small doses but I still feed Arty in a separate box. I use it because it is great for absorbing the moisture from poop so you can just scoop it up. It is also good because, as long as you regularly spot-clean, it can last a long time so you don't need to change it as often as other substrates. The down side is that it's very expensive and, if I was to use it in a large viv (I use it for hatclings-yearlings) it would cost about £24 pounds for each cage.

Anyway, that's completely off topic. Slams was talking about Geckos and maybe he meant normal sand. Did you? Anyway, I have good experiences with calci-sand.

how sad

Or your local Humane Society can handle the sitch too. Here in WI they deal with all the animal cruelty stuff,.... ASPCA is more of a national thing, and may not be able to get involved because they aren't local, but who knows, do keep us updated I am very interested to see what happens....
