Just showing off my new Geckos :)

...and a breeding pair of Uroplatus phantasticus!

Meet Ogra and Fizzgig:

I'm just goofy-happy about these guys!

I love the looks of Orga and Fizzgig... are you a big fan of the Dark Crystal? lol... I had to chuckle over the names. My kids love that movie.

Gelfling? I see no gelfling?!

Yeah, busted. Any combo of Jim Hensen, Frank Oz and Brian Froud, I'm not sure if it makes me geeky or just immature lol

Nothing wrong with the muppets... my kids love them. Especially Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.

So how many geckos do you have total now? Sounds like you have more then just these newbies. Also, how delicate are the Uroplatus phantasticus? I love their looks but I'm always worried they'd be harder to take care of then the snakes. I love the Cresteds and the Gargoyles too, but have not yet taken the leap into getting any of my own yet.

Jenn

Yeah they are pretty delicate, but I've got a viable egg from her so so far so good I think. They're considered a 'moderate experience Uroplatus' and most Uroplatus are high maintenece. They don't tolerate any amount of negligence as far as feeding or misting or cleaning, but they're so cute :DTry a U. ebenaui as well, they're a little hardier.
I also have a Crested, 3 Leos (one on the way), Giant Bent Toe and 2 Tokays, not counting the other 50 I take care of at work (Fanfoots, Goldens, Bibrons, Whitespots, Giant Days, Dwarf Yellowheads etcetc):D and one Corn Snake (Hoggie on the way next month) I also care for Tegus, Blue Head Agamas, Russian Torts, Box Turtles, Beardies, Skinks...yeah I'm busy lol

Ahh.. you must work at a pet store then... or something... at least it sounds that way :D

I'm going to wait to get into lizards until we have a real home of our own. I wouldn't fancy moving with the lizards and it'll be hard enough coordinating the move with all of the snakes. In the mean time I'm researching the geckos I like and checking out the gecko tables at all the shows. (Love the color on the day geckos!) and trying to get an idea of which ones I'd like. I don't plan on breeding them - I've enough hatchlings to deal with from the legless garbage disposals we have, lol - but I'd love to have a display viv with gecko or two in it.

My daughter wants a leo, but they kind of wig me out. The whole hole in the head thing that you can see through is just kinda weird. Though I've gotten better about it, cause now I can at least look at them and appreciate the different morphs.

The best feature of all the geckos I've seen, their eyes. I just love the colors and textures of their eyes. Some are just too wild to be real.

Jenn

Yup I work in a pet store. I love my job...reptiles all day :D

OH yeah you'd love the Gargoyles then...I love the blue eyes! Amazing! I don't see them up in Canada often, I know there's a lot working with them in the States.

I can't imagine how long it'll take you to move all those snakes, yikes!

That's cool that you work in a pet store. Tim and I have talked about opening up a store of our own if we move back up to SK. (His family is up there.) Don't know if we will, but the idea is out there...

I could stare at gargoyle pics all day long. Their patterns, and the eyes - oh man those entrancing eyes. I see them all the time at the shoes, with the leos, tokays, cresteds, and the day geckos and a few other ones as well. Maybe we'll end up with a few once we're up there.

I don't think moving the snakes will be all that hard - mostly coordinating it so we can check on them each night. (It'll be a three day trip if we move back up to SK.) We can store their full-size tuppers and tote them in bags and smaller boxes/delis.

I think the 12 mouse colonies and the rats will be harder to move. Though, we will most likely freeze or sell off most of the young and just select the hardiest breeders from each colony instead. But then we'll have to wait forever to build the colonies back up and that will get expensive to feed all the snakes. *sigh*

ANYway... sorry for getting so off topic...

Jenn

Cool! I had a Tokay when I was a kid. Do you _ever_ find a nice one? I saw a blue Tokay at Daytona- she was just amazing.

Nanci

Thanks guys! :D

SK, Saskatchewan? There's a lot of herpers out there! Were you thinking of doing a storefront petstore or doing the online thing?

The last two are U. phantasicus, or Satanic Leaftail Gecko, as they are commonly called. They're both the same species but there's a lot of diversity in thier looks.

Oh yeah Nanci, I saw the pics of the Blue Tokay from Daytona! *green with envy* IIRC she was selling for about a grand, though :(

can you handle those guys i heard they would try to take a finger off if you picked it up for most tokays anyway. But those are just amazing looking

I know a very few people have been able to tame them somewhat, so it's not completely impossible. But for the most part they are a little evil lol.
Mine are at the point where they don't gape at me when I go in the tank, and I can touch them lightly on their back, but it'll be a while before I try to pick them up, like next year :)

Yep, just outside of Regina. We were hoping to do both - store front and on-line, but we'll have to wait and see how things go once we get up there. We'll at least do the on-line and some of the herp shows and such...
