I didn't know where you got her. I got mine from a pet store, too, so I don't have an age either. I was just curious, but not a problem. No one can calculate age. There is more a of correlation to how much they are fed to size than to age, but you can't go by that either. Because mine was little, I guess "he" (don't know that for sure either) was a baby when I got him.
After eating they like to go into their warm hides to digest their meals, though some do go to the cool hide. They are smart enough to know what temp they need, that's for sure; and if you provide the temperature gradient and places to hide, they will pick the place they need to be for proper digestion. For mine that's always the warm hide, which I do keep at 85 F.
If you have any questions about hides, undertank heating, thermostats, etc., feel free to ask. I don't know what substrate you are using but corns love to burrow so many of us use shredded aspen. I and my snake love the aspen, and it can function as another hiding place if you use it thick enough. It's also very easy to spot clean.
No you are not insane. I love my snakey more than I can say. They are amazing and a lot more intelligent than science seems to give them credit for. All you have to do is observe them for a while to know what wonderful creatures they are. I often forget that my snake doesn't have limbs because he is so capable as nature made him. And mine just shed again and I'm totally in awe of that whole process.
There is a rhythm to their lives that does take some getting used to because I don't see mine for one to two days after eating and for 10 days while in shed and during those times I miss him, but I know his biologically hard wired needs come before my needs during those times.
Well, you get the idea. Welcome to the club. You've come to the place where we understand exactly what you mean when you talk about Ruby. And yes, a first meal picture would be great. I still remember how relieved I was when Dolly readily took his first pinky! I did not get a pic of that. I'm glad you did.
