right now.. the humidity in my corn snakes tank is 50

i have an under tank heater but it never goes up to 80 that much..

it ranges from 70-75

and ive fed my corn snake twice already.. and he isnt done shedding yet.. its been like.. 2-3 weeks or even more..

what do i do? :shrugs:

well.. he's an albino.. so it has always been redish orange..

i guess ill need a light instead of an under tank heater?

he started shedding 2-3 weeks ago.. but isnt done..

its all flakey

What size tank is he in, and what size UTH is it? 70-75 sounds quite low for a UTH to get up to from what ive read and experienced.

When i swapped my UTH over from the small tank to the larger tank i thought it was struggling to warm the tank up and was looking at lamps to bring the tank up higher, Even posted a thread on here asking about bulbs etc. But luckily before i paid out any extra money i checked my thermo probes and the snake had managed to dislodge it while burrowing so the reading i was getting wasnt actually from the part of the tank i wanted. You may find your temps are higher than you think.

Are you using a thermostat, rheostat or anything else inbetween the plug socket on the wall and the heater that could be sapping power?. I know its entirely possible that your UTH could be faulty, or just underpowered for your tank.... but its always better to check and double check and make sure the temps are infact low before you go about raising them through other methods :)

how much is the humidity supposed to be??

humid hide??

he has a coconut hide and a skull hide..??

I get the feeling this is a new experience for you. You need to do some serious research. If your snake has been in the process of sheading for 3 weeks, you are about to be in the market for a new snake.

A humid hide is some type of an air tight container like a rubber maid box that your fill with dampened moss or a damp wash cloth. Cut a small hole in it so the snake can go in and hide and have his skin hydrated at the same time.

so... something is wrong with my snake??

but i love my snake!! =[

your saying i might need a new one??

hes in a 10 gallon tank

By humid hide he means something with a bit of moisture in it... most people use a small tub with some damp spaughnam(sp?) moss in it.

Check your local reptile stores, Or garden centers and they should have some quite cheap. I know theres a guy on eBay UK that sells fresh spaughnum picked from his farm at about £2 for a 250g bag.

Other alternatives could be some damp towel or cloth... just make sure whatever you was to put in isn't too damp, should just expell a small amount of water when you squeeze it.

your tank hum should be 60-70. You said it was 50? I think that is why your snake is having trouble sheding.I use a spray bottle to keep the hum were I want it, mist not spray. And I have no trouble with my snakes with there sheding.:shrugs: I had read that if at 50 and below you will have respiratory trouble.

My snake prefers her hottest area at about 82F-83F. When I set up the viv she is in I put in several thermometers and observed her range by where she liked to stay. When digesting she never went to the hottest(85-86), in fact she never stayed there for any long period of time.
On the cold side it is mostly regulated by my kitchen temp (where she lives), so it does not go below about 68F.
When we use the oven for long periods of time the ambient temp gets to be a little higher on her hot side so she hangs around near her water bowl(maybe 72F).
Observe your snake in its habitat, they're nice to look at anyways.
