Kaa was Eaten

We use a critter cage with a lock- I like knowing I can hear that "click" to be sure it's closed all the way.

With my DS (who has autism) the lock was the only way to go! Otherwise he would be helping himself to visiting Nitro all the time!

As a side note, for some reason the presence of the lock really chills snake phobic people out when they're at our house. I don't know why they think Nitro would want to sneak up on them:shrugs::shrugs:, but with the lock there they figure he can't do it and they stop worrying!

Not a good time to make jokes when someone's snake JUST died.

I might have missed this... but how big was your snake? How big was the cage? Did you check the net thingy to see if it tore somewhere or there's a little opening?
 
So sorry about Kaa. It sounds like you really tried to do what was best for him. Snakes are curious and escape artists by nature. Sorry for your loss.
 
I am sorry to hear your loss. From my reptile handling I have found that corn snakes are little Houdinis. My first snake was a corn snake, and he got out of his cage nearly daily. Till the day he got out of his cage, and into the kingsnakes cage... That was my sad day.
 
Kaa was about 14 inches, still not quite as thick as my pinky. There were no 'holes' big enough for him to slip through, we kept him in a lockable rubbermaid container. I think he climbed up onto the shelf on the inside, near the handle, slither along at the top and pushed the lid away just enough to get out. I can't think of anything else. So much bad luck all at once; him escaping the cage; and the room; AND the cats just happened to find him! It's such a shame, I was really looking forward to seeing his adult colors, he was such a handsome little fellow...

That really is unfortunate :(. Don't blame yourself, it's obviously not your fault.
 
Ok, so I guess I am going to get another Corn, but one that is a little older this time most likely. And I am def going to invest in a new cage with sliding lid and locks that was suggested to me. I looked at Rosy Boas, Kenyan Sand Boas, ad Rubber Boas, and BAll Pythons, but I really like the Corns. So, I guess I'll be looking for a corn now. I still miss Kaa, but I really miss having a serpent friend slithering around.

Thanks! Heh, a not quite SO little friend this time. I'll have to post the pics Jeff Linkhorst sent me of him after I get him, he is 2 feet long and rather much thicker than Kaa. I just want to get him first before I post pics, just in case, you know? Wish me luck, I can't wait!

He said it is a normal het Motley. Actually, if anyone could shed some light on what that means, or point me in the right direction, that would be great, LOL! And yes, I am SOOOO excited!!!!
 
If I'm not mistaken, I think it means that one or both of his parents may be a normal motley. The percentage possible for his het depends on whether one or both of his parents is a normal motley, and also if one or more of his grandparents is a normal motley. For example, if both of his parents are normal motleys, it increases his chance of being a normal motley himself. But in this case, he's normal het motley, which means he has a good chance of having normal motley offspring. Hope this clears things up for ya :).
 
LOL, thanks ReptileMama, it helped a little. But since I don't have any plans for breeding, it means his Het doesn't much matter, right?
 
Yeah..

Het actually means that he/she has a motley gene in him/her. Which, like stated before, means that one of the parents was a motley and the other probably a normal. You said you don't want to breed, but if you bred it to another het motley you would get all normal motleys.
