Is anyone here doing Caramel/ Kastanie morph projects? I am also curious about the availability of the Kastanie morph in the US (it's an assumption on my part that they may be rare here based on the fact that the name of the morph is germanic). Thanks

If you're referring to "Kastanie" being Deutsch for "chestnut"....I think that would have far less to do with anything,...compared to the prohibitive red tape and shipping costs from the BRD.

Based on the search you provided, I'd say that Chestnut/Kastanie is uncommon in the US...as far as importing from EU and it's cost...guess that's why I was wondering about availability in the US. I've found one site with Kastanie in the US and they are fairly expensive at around 750 so I will probably not add a Kastanie to my very beginning program in the near future.
 
I am going kastanie het amel to butter motley this year, well next. I often have a broker bring snakes over to germany for me from the states, I could ask him if there would be anyway he could ship something back to the US??. that would likely be september.
I will be attempting a few others aswell, probably a bloodred being one.
 
I would definitely be curious about whether or not importation to the US is possible/cost effective. If it is, there may be a group of people interested in importing that would make
importation even more cost effective.
There are some beautiful morphs over seas from what I've seen and there have been many comments from people wishing they could obtain some of the EU snakes posted here. Personally, I would be very interested in a full kastanie, kastanie blood red or kastanie het
bloodred.
 
You might also try emailing Don at South Mountain since he does the HAMM show every year, he might have brought some back with him.
 
I was checking out VMS Herps and saw that they produced some this year. They have them listed at $500 a piece...
 
It is believed that the Rosy Bloodreds that are produced at South Mountain are in fact Kastanie Bloodreds. This was pointed out to Don by some of the European breeders that are working with the Kastanies. I THINK Don will prove this out next year. This is a female that was produced by Don last year. He bred a male rosy bloodred and one of its sons, which is het for rosy blood and snow, to his daughter, also het for rosy blood and snow. The result is this snake. It is definitely something different and looked exactly like the photos I have seen of Kastanies. Any opinions from those who have seen Kastanies first hand. This is an '08 approx. 1 meter in length.

I know a lot of Kastanies and all I can say is that they look EXACTLY the same like the outcrossed rosybloods from Don, no matter if hatchling or adult. I'm pretty sure Don will testbreed his line with the animals he got from Germany this year.
