Keeping a breeding pair from birth.....

Can you keep a 1.1 pair of unrelated hatchlings that are the same size together from day 1 in hopes that they will breed? I am thinking about keeping them in a 10 gallon till they reach about a 1'6"-2' then moving them into a 20 long. Once they reach about 3'6" then moving them into a 40 breeder. Will that plan work? I also need your opinion on what 2 kinds of hatchlings to get for breeding to make some nice babies. I will let you guys know what my final desicion is. I just need to sell my 3' ball python to get some extra cash to start this thing off. All breeding tips and comments are welcome.

It is not a good idea to keep them together. You'll find that they may breed before they are actually big enough to breed safely. They can breed as young as 12-18 months old. Typically the female is still too small to lay her eggs safely at that age. You will be running the risk of her becoming egg bound. This can lead to costly vet visits, sterility, and/or death.

When they are at least 2-3 years old and the female is at least 300 grams and 3 feet long. These are the most commonly recommended ages and sizes.
