Keeping Hatchlings in Incubator?

Butter Popcorn

New member
Hey guys, I'm looking at building my own incubator out of a fishing cooler and using it as the main enclosure for the hatched snakes.

Could I separate out the hatchlings into different containers and leave them in the incubator to save space and keep them at a constant temperature? One of the breeders I bought from used this method and it seemed to work, but I worry if it could be bad for the snakes because they wouldn't have a cool side.

Any tips would be appreciated. I have a good idea about building the incubator but tips would also be appreciated.

Thank you,

I keep my hatchlings in individual Gladware containers in one of my incubators. It's frig sized with ventilated racks and works very well. I added an external air source and carbon filter to the unit because unlike eggs, hatchlings defecate. I didn't want them to be overcome by ammonia out gassing. I know several other friends that do the same thing with old glass fronted dairy frigs. They are relatively cheap to buy once the compressors fail. My only issues with them are their weight and bulkiness. Otherwise they are a perfect choice for housing or hatching reptiles.

The incubators I use have glass fronts but in an igloo-like cooler you could easily use a little fluorescent so as not to create extra heat.
