Keeping lid on

I want to get a All Glass Aquariums Critter Cage because they have the sliding tops that lock in the back. These cages are more expensive than just getting an aquarium with a lid. I was wondering, what is the best way to keep the lid on and the snake in with a normal aquarium and lid? The clips that some of those cages come with are a pain to take on and off so i dont want those to be an option.

lol for the longest time i just kept a small stack of books on top of the lid to keep lil snakey from getting out, but now that ive upgraded her tank, i actually bought some velcro strips, and am using velcro strips to keep the lid secure. i know they are escape artists so i always try opening the tank with one finger and if its tough for my finger to lift, im almost sure she wont escape. so far i have not had an escape-ee yet.

just make sure you get a good, tight fit. on my aquarium, the lid is not quite rectangular, so it won't fit quite right (can't expect perfect craftsmanship on a $5 item). The point is, EVERY time you leave the tank, make sure that your lid is on toatlly and securely (trust me, it's worth the 30 extra seconds to keep your snake safely in the viv).

this velcro is pretty strong, its shop quality and when you rub the 2 together they become extra bonded, so if i were to try and lift the lid off without first taking off the velcro, i'd probably lift the whole tank lol.

dont get me wrong though, she still tries getting out, its like her excercise i swear, i think its so facinating how she'll use her muscles and mid section of her body to try and push up the lid, and then she'll stick herself to the top of the lid and go to every corner and try and push it up, funny cuz sometimes she falls off and i'll here a thunk. lol. gald she doesnt hurt herself doing that

I was agreeing with what you had already said. My point was that no way of holding the lid is going to help you if the snake can aqueeze out through a hole ;)

My aquarium was for reptiles so the lid slid into place and locked with pins. I've never had a problem with an escapee yet. My new reptile tubs only have locking hinges on the ends, so I got some clips to hold the middle and sides closed against a snake pressing up inside. I worried because my hatchlings are fitting up inside the rim and I'm afraid they'll push it out enough to escape.

well i tried using the screen top clips(i have some for my geckos cage but dont use them) again and they werent to bad. So i went the cheap route and got an aquarium and lid and am using the clips. Will one clip on both ends be good enough?

If this helps at all, I had a ball that would push up the lid with books on it and get a piece of his skin pinched. I threw the 20 long out and got him a 40 breeder

The 20 long was cracked and the screen on top was ripped also. I just taped it up. Now I wish I never tossed it out because I could have used it for a leo still

this is what i did to keep the lid on, one of these strap things is on each corner. It seems to work well. i also put a piece of the "soft" velcro around the rim of the tank so the lid fits on snug.

It looks like you linked the pictures wrong. If you right-click on your post where the red X's are and click on "Properties" you'll notice that in the address there are two sets of "http://". This will cause an error as that's an improper address. Remove the second set of HTTP and you'll be fine.
