King and milk snakes

Hey guys!! I'm thinking of getting my second snake. I like the colors on some of the king and milk snakes. I just wanted to know what is the difference in the care and behavior of these snakes and a cornsnake. I've had a cornsnake for about a month and a half and its alive and very active so I think I'm ready to get another snake. Another question I had, is there another forum like this one but for king snakes. Thank you!

The care for king snakes is essentially identical to that of corns. I keep my king at the same temps as the corns and hes thriving. The only forum I can think of for king snakes is kingsnakes.com. But they have other forums for other species too. But this forum is still better in regards to king snakes than that web site, lol.

The care is quite similiar...

just have some soap handy and be prepared to be musked. Depending on the type of King you may get. Make sure you wash your hands handling one snake to the next. Lisa was using the hook I use for the Kings on the Corns. She couldn't figure out why the Corns were going nuts.

While corns are a single species, kings and milks are both groups of snakes that have some real diversity - not as easy to make generalizations about them. Kingsnakes can vary from bold, curious and outgoing guys like california kings - that are more likely to bite and musk, but spend a lot of time cruising the viv and are very entertaining - to the very mild temperment and shyer nature of the greybands or variable kings.

Milks on the whole tend to be shyer than corns - they spend a lot of time hiding and they are more nervous as youngsters, though they can grow out of that and be very tame as adults. Again - huge variation in type depending on species - many North American milks mature at under 3 feet and some central and south american species get to 6 feet.

Temps are similar to corns, though some milks - like black milksnakes need lower temperatures. Humidity requirements really depend on the species - whether desert or coastal type animals.

Both kings and milks in all their variety are great captives - there is no forum comparable to this that I am familiar with.

best of luck in your decision - if you have some specific species you are considering, maybe post those options and you can get more information here,

yep.. so many types out there.
I have myself a Cal king, Honduran Milk and Mexican Black Kings. I love them all, the cal king is a biter though. While the others are pretty gentle.
