Kony 2012?

I'm actually pretty surprised this hasn't been posted yet since it's been blowing up on my facebook. Take the time and watch this video.

My whole school is buzzing about it. I'm surprised to see these people actually worked up about something other than who Becky is screwing.

Here's my opinion of it, we need to focus on America right now. We are in a recession, gas is $4 a gallon, our "president" is the worst we've ever had, not to mention we need to be concerned about getting rid of Obama. We need focus on the issues in this country before we begin to deal with yet another countries issues. I mean I feel for the people over there, but I also feel for the people in my own country. I mean our current administration is taking our rights away right and left. Pretty soon it will be illegal to think! I cannot understand why the people in our country are so open to supporting other countries but not our own. That's my take on it.

It is inspiring! It shows that people can change the system and make our politicians in Washington stop and hear us. I think more people need to take note on how Kony 2012 is done and apply it to other issues we face here in the US.

There is a special place in hell for those that hurt children.

I think we need to face those issues before we deal with the issues of a foreign country.

Eh... Yes and no, while domestic issues do need to be majorly addressed, I personally feel the issues in the video represent a greater concern than say gas prices. If it means potentially saving lives, I can tolerate paying $.50 more per gallon for a while.

The more the US get's in conflicts with these regions, the more tension will grow in the middle east. We're in very sensitive times, I just think devoting more time, risking more American lives, and sending more resources over seas, is something this country just can't deal with.

So here's my opinion on this 'sheltered' opinion "we need to focus on America right now... gas is $4 a gallon". This isn't a cause that's going to make gas less expensive... you're right. But these children are literally being raped, tortured and killed. If you had to pay $5 a gallon, you should still prefer your living situation over theirs.

I hope that Americans really do look at situations like this as hopeful. We have a tremendous power to change and help people, with as simple effort as showing positive support for positive movements. This is an inspiring effort to try and rebuild the lives of a generation of hopeless children.

I totally agree with you Michael (for the first time even). These children are terrorifed to go to sleep at night in fear of been taken out of their beds and forced to kill and mutilate others probably even their own families. Children shouldn't have to live like that, no matter where they live.

I agree there are issues here in the US that need to be addressed and reformed. I even know the war on child abuse here in the States. But these children needed a voice, they need heroes that are willing to stand up for them. I bet my left arm that the US soldiers that are over there dont mind helping in the efforts to stop this monster and I think they would do it again and again to help the helpless. We arent over there in a war. We are helping stop a group of monsters. There is no other agenda then to help these children feel safe and to live a life they could only dream of.

We as American's take so many of our freedoms and comforts for granted. I believe the lives of children is far greater a cause then lowering our gas prices.

Also, we can learn by this movement. We the people can take back our government and make politician listen to us in great numbers (voters).

Sheltered? Are you kidding me? Look unless you haven't noticed we're in a recession. So why should we be sending more aid, more troop, and more money when we don't even have the money ourselves! If we were sitting better financially I would be all for it, but we're 15 trillion in debt, we need to rebuid our nation, not others. We can't always run run to other county's rescue when we ourselves need rescue.

We aren't running to help out another country. We are helping children by helping find the monster who kidnaps, rapes, mutilates and murder them. How can we sit idlely by and do nothing to help? Yea we are in a recession, it isnt our first and wont be our last. We have been in debt for years and years... yea its higher than ever before. I don't see bread lines in our future by any means, even by helping these children.

I understand the merit of what we're doing, and I agree we should help these children, but the US continues to stick our nose into other countries business and we will loose money and soldiers. I don't see why the UK can't help or another UN country. It doesn't always have to be the US, putting our neck on the chopping block.

Yeah, cos it's not like the UK have been involved in Iraq or Afghanistan or anything.

Thanks for noticing the six members of our armed services killed yesterday.

I know you were involved, and I'm sorry for the loss of your troops. All I'm saying is we need to let another country deal with this.

As a military wife and family, I know my husband would go over there without a doubt to help these children. He would do it without question as to his safety. He has been deployed to Africa a few times and he has seen how these people live. I don't see how helping the Ugandan government and the ICC bring down a monster who preys upon children would lose us any more money then what is being flushed down the toliet here in the America. It would be going towards the greater good of humanity. Perhaps we could lose soldiers but like I said they would die doing what they believe is right and just and that is the whole reason most join the military. It would be a better cause then what they were doing in Iraq or even Afgan.

Yes, America needs to be reformed and taken back. But why can't both be done? Why can't we the people taken a lesson from this movement and use it to also help America?

My heart and prayers goes out to the family and friends of those heroes that gave up there lives. My husband was stationed in England for 4 years with Special Ops and worked closely with many British soldiers. The UK has lost just as many lives in Iraq and Afgan as well as Austrailan soldiers. These heroes should not be forgotten.

Most Americans are so self centered and all out self interest and they have the same attitude and opinion as you do David. Why do we need to let another country handle it? Why not help out with our resources and technology? I see too many times where the buck has been passed and thousands have died. Other countries have their own domestic issues just like the US. So why pass the buck to other countries? This should be the Humanity's issue and everyone should help these children!

I feel right now we need to devote as much energy and resources as possible to rebuilding our country. I think it's just not something the US needs to get into at the present time. We're hurting right now, another conflict/war would cost the taxpayers more money, increase the deficit, etc. I just think the US needs sometime to heal before we get involved with another country's issues.

The charity responsible for that video has come under fire for a lot of their practices and I do believe they have interfered with talks between the Ugandan government and Kony before. As vile as Kony is, I don't think Invisible Children is working for the good of the children involved; They are instead using this to drive their own interests.

Wanting to stop people like Kony is definitely something to laud, but just make sure you know who you're donating to if you do decide to donate.
