You should be able to order it in England from Amazon.com.uk I think it is. There is a thread going on this forum about Kathy's book. I know someone in England just ordered it. You might be able to order it direct from Kathy's site as well. That's also on that thread. I just read it about 2 minutes ago.
As far as the lid goes, it should be alright as long as you can secure it. Make sure the lamp doesn't create too high a tank temp. The plastic can act as a hothouse type effect. Before you get the snake, turn the lamp on and monitor the temps to see what you get.

You can defiantely get the Cornsnake Manual, wherever you are. I'm in Scotland and got one no probs. You can order copies on amazon.co.uk, from Kathy Loves site cornutopia.com or second hand from ebay. You should even be able to buy them from the reptile shop you are getting your snake. Last time I was in Ireland, I found a copy in a tiny reptile shop near Letterkenny (which is about as non-descript as they come).

Coming to think about it. You can also get the book from Bartlett. I got it in a petstore in Galway. Its not to expensive either and has all neccessary details in it.
