Laying in the nest box

Will

Snaketeen :D
Hi today my mum to be has gone into blue so i decided to put her next box in the tank (a tupaware tub with sphagnum moss). When i put her back in the tank after her first unsuccessful feed (which I can only take as normal from what i've read) I put her back in the tank and she went straight for the tub and buried straight to the bottom in the spahgum moss. I think i expected her to make some kind of nest on top like a bird. So what i'm really asking is should she bury to the bottom and if and when she lays her eggs will she lay them at the bottom or the top? Thanks Will

This is a picture just for fun....lol

Its normal for the to burrow like that. My female layed some on the top, some on the bottom. It more usual for them to make a bowl like cavity and lay in it.

My ButterSnow just got done laying and she burried herself completely so that you couldn't see any part of her in the moss.

My Hypo Cotton Candy Lavender just went into her lay box a week ago getting ready for the big day, and she is content sitting atop the moss after she has coiled it underneath her.

My Lavender, however, prefers to not disturb her moss and waits up on the top of the tub with just her head and neck in the moss.

I have some girls that like to bury in the moss and I have others that like to sit on top. Our Amel just laid us a clutch of 25 eggs and refused her lay bin all together and laid them outside the bin in her aspen. :shrugs: I guess it comes down to the individuality of the snake and what she prefers. She should lay her eggs whereand how she "feels" is the most optimum place for her to lay them. Hope this helps.
