I Want More Snakes
Hey, Im going on Holiday for 3 weeks on Saturday To Florida, And I have no-one to look after my Snake "As Yet". Im getting worried that no1 is going to look after him.
No1 seems to like snakes who I know hehe, They all think they are Slimy and horrible, but they are very much mistaken...

Whaaaaat Should I do if no-one looks after him before I go ? :S

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp :S lol...

Sam.....

Depends upon how old the snake is. If it's very young, letting it go 3 weeks without food can be stretching it, although they can easily do it. Adults are not a problem. Water is a bigger problem. You might have to put several dishes or bowls in there so that it doesn't end up not having any during your trip. Is there a pet sitting person available who could perhaps check on your animal once a week for you? Just make sure the water is good?

3 weeks holiday! Lucky!

Anyway, try your nearest reptile shop. The shop where I bought my corn snakes from has a pet sitting service. They charge per day (depending on size and type of reptile) but they're based in Hertfordshire...

I have tried to shop where I bought him from, they said they do look after them but they are fully booked they dont have any room for him, Which is annoying, and No1 I know likes snakes, except for my brother but he is coming on holiday aswell.
My snake is about 8-9months old, I think, hehe.
If I made sure there was plenty of water in there would it be ok leaving him? Or would that not be the best idea as he is still young ? ?

Sam....

An 8-9 month old snake should be well off pinkies and on at least a fuzzy if not larger. He should be fine for 3 weeks as long as you provide plenty of water. I'd definitely have more than one just in case he deficates or spills one. Keep the bowls away from the edges of the tanks, as I find my snakes tend to poop up against the walls. Feed just before you leave and he should be good. I'd maybe feed a few days before you go...a bit larger than normal..just to make sure there's no regurge that will end up sitting there for the next 3 weeks. Too bad you don't know anyone from this forum that is near you and could take him for you during your trip.

Ok, Thank you, Well I am going to keep on trying to get someone to look after him, I dont go till Saturday so got all week to find some-one but I just wanted to know what to do if the worst came to the worst.
Another quick question, Rather than making a new Thread?
What Substrate do you use for your snake?
Because when I get back from holiday im totally cleaning out his Viv and I want to put in Medium Orchid Bark, Is that any good or, What should I use instead ??

Sam....

I agree with MegF, I have had to leave the babies behind for a while and they all did great. That is, with extra water and a nice large feed pre departure.

As for substrate always go ASPEN. Others use things like newspaper/shreddings etc which is ok, but a couple of substrates out there can cause more damage than good to your little snake. For instance cedar, pine, gravel, cobs, all are problematic.
Enjoy your vacation!

Thank you, Ok then, I have Aspen at the moment but I just wanted to know if any others were good, But if Aspen is the best ill stick with that.
Plus I do have half a bag of the stuff left so I have plenty Hehe.
I will thank you Nice hot weather to go to. hehe.
