Legos?

My son wants to build a hide/decoration for his little guy. Has anyone done anything like this? Are Legos safe? Do they needed to be treated with anything?

I just found a couple pics in this forum with Lego hides. I'm guessing a good cleaning would probably do the trick.

My guess is that since they are made for little kids (who stick everything in their mouths), they are probably safe for reptiles. But cleaning any chemical residue that may remain from manufacturing is probably a good idea.

My biggest concern would be it not collapsing. We're very into legos around here (especially lego snakes) and most of the buildings really don't have a lot of support for the roof. If you can get the thick baseplates that are actually bricks and use them under the roof, that will help a lot, but they're expensive, and a hide for an adult corn would require several of them. I also would suggest kragling it (for those who haven't seen the Lego movie, that means gluing) for stability, and then washing the entire creation. Legos can run through the dishwasher, even on a sterilize setting without melting, and that's what I'd suggest after completing and gluing the creation. The best glues will be something designed for plastics that is not heat/water sensitive.

LoL, aside from it being hard as heck to clean if poop got into the cracks, I think that would be a fun idea for a hide!

LEGOs are made out of ABS and aren't going to leach anything significant. Anything you build though, should be able to withstand your snake lying on top of it and make sure that you can get him out of it without destroying the LEGO hide.
