licking bark

Snakes use their tongues to smell, rather than lick/taste, so it sounds like it's just checking out the "new stuff"! Have you ever used bark before?

hiya :wavey:

its the large piece of bark that s/he's had since i got her/him......it seems to put its nose and lips to the bark just like its sniff and 'licking'............first time I've seen it do anything like that...................he had climbed onto my hand by himself for the first time, just prior to that :shrugs:

thanx

Hiya MegF. :wavey:

mine does that too.........but this was strange :shrugs: Unless he does that anyway and I just haven't seen him :shrugs:

oh well.........time will tell :)

thank you

is the snake kind of new ? mine done it when i first bought him, i was worried he would mistake it as a mouse and eat it or something, but he didnt, he is still here today :D

hi stuart :wavey:

no....I've had it for about 3 weeks now........its just the first time I've seen it do that!

thank you

hey :) :wavey:

mine was doing it for a good month or 2, i wouldn't worry too much, i know i did, i worried a lot, but he is a year and a half now, hes fine :D, mine also swallowed somt of the substrate, which was wood shavings when eating his food, u cud see it in his neck when he pushed the mouse into his belly. but he digested it and is really happy now, i just make sure that the mouse is DRY before it goes into his cage, so nothing can stick to it,

That's the reason most people don't feed their snake on substrate. Even dry, the mouse's fur can pick up substrate and you will run the risk of impaction. You're better off feeding them in something, even if it's in the viv in a container.
