Lighting for vivi (Fluorescent)

Hey, my vivi that i have my sanke in is a woodenone with glass slideing door, most of the time the tank is very dark and tbh it not that nice to look into as it very dull and hard to see my snake. So i got this light http://www.eterna-lighting.co.uk/product.asp?stockcode=D078 its a Fluorescent tube and is only 6w and is about 200mm long, i have put black tape also on the light so it directs the light upward. But the sanke is just sitting there looking at the light atm it only been on for 2h or so, its on a timer to only come on at 6pm till 8:30pm.

Is Fluorescent tubes okay for snakes, it enclosed so the sanke canot get to it
 
As far as I know fluorescents are okay. That is what I use for my viv. Mine are 15w with a diffuser over them so it dims the light. It lights the viv quite nicely. Also, it is completely covered so there is no chance my snakies will get burned (they love to climb). From what I have read here you don't need to have a UV light for the snakes because they don't really need any more UVs than they naturally get. As far as the snake staring at it... I can't really help you there. That seems like somewhat odd behaviour to me but maybe it is just curious and isn't brave enough to go check it out, so it is waiting just to make sure the 'creepy light up there' doesn't attack it ;). Also, I have mine set on a similar timer, but it turns on at daybreak and turns off at nightfall (I adjust it accordingly when the days get naturally longer and shorter). I do this to simulate a natural environment for them. 2 1/2 hours doesn't seem like enough 'daytime' to me, but I don't know that they even require it. I DO know that they need at LEAST 8 hours of 'nighttime' though, so you are doing good there. Hope I helped!
 
Well atm the corn is only 6months old so its in a small tank inside the full size vivi, i had to do this because my house gets to cold for the tank to be heated by a heatmat, with a heat lamp the hole tank warms up so 1 side is about 70 and the other is about 86. befor the hot side was correct but the cold side was about 60 way to cold.

So the lil one is sitting in her small tanking looking up at it, but i think your right it been in tehre for about a month then suddely there is a light, its prob just being carefull.
 
Yeah, I am having a heating issue as well. I am desperately trying to get my viv finished. It should be done in a couple of weeks, but I still feel bad for them nonetheless. They are doing great right now but my conscience isn't happy knowing that it isn't 'ideal' for them.

So the 6w is actually heating up the viv huh? I didn't think it would but that is good that it is. I have vents right next to my 15ws and the vivs are pretty tall but maybe it will still work. I should re-check my temps when I get home this evening (we just got the lighting done last night so I haven't seen what it does yet).
 
nahh the 6w gives off no heat, i have a non lighting heat lamp at the other end of the vivi on a pulse stat that keep the temp in the tank, it seems to give the perfect allround temp for my 3ftx18in vivi.
 
with the lamp set to 88f it maintains a good 85-87 around the baskimg area while the heat moves around the tank it gives me about 75-78 in the middle and a nice 70-75 around the far end so plenty of places to my lil snake to adjust her temps.
 
What kind of a heat lamp do you use? I am always worried that something will burn my snakes 'cause they like to climb up on things so I need to find something safe...
 
I use a 100w ceramic heat lamp but its on a pulse stathttp://www.eurorep.net/habistat/pulse.htm, so it never at a very hot temp it just puts nough elec though the lamp to maintain a temp, then around that lamp i have a metal cage it just fits betweent he lamp holder and caver the lamp stoping the snake from being able to get to it, u can buy them from most reptile stores. like the ones on this page http://www.southernxreptiles.com/RA Home Sweet Home.htm
 
i have a 100w ceramic bulb on a therostat, and i have a guard around it as a snake can still burn itself on it. The snake is a lot smaller than you so what doesnt feel hot for you can feel hot the snake and cause burns. You can get bulb guards on ebay and you just screw it tight to the viv so the snake can get up in it.
