Lighting Help+Random Questions.

Well after reading some of these posts I have began to wonder if I really should of kept light for my snake?
I have had Melvin for about 8 months now, He was born last August so is about a year old.
I have him in a 20gal long tank in the corner of my room. I have the blinds of my room open as to where he gets light from outside when it is light out, and he gets his darkness, when it's dark out.
Well I don't currently have a "light" to keep on the tank, I just use a heat lamp the outputs heat all the time, I keep this on one half of the tank so he always has a warm spot to go to that usually stays at about 89-90 degrees, I have a digi thermometer in the middle where he normally chills which is about 85 degrees. Then he has a cold side to go to where his water dish is at which is normally 75 or colder.
:shrugs:

SO the question is do I really need a light for the tank if Im using the light form outside? He seems healthy and is always eating/shedding on scheduled times.
Any advice would help where this is my first snake!
Thanks again!

Natural light is better then anything you can buy, so you're fine. Your temps are fine, I would say you're doing a great job.

Yup I totally agree. Your doing a brilliant job. I have bought a light for my corn, but only because he is in a dark corner of my room and it helps the visual side of things. I don't even have a heat-lamp, but just use a heat-mat on one side of the terrarium.

Agree with the above - sounds like you're doing fine.

I used lights when I first started out, but over the years I read about various potential downsides and switched them all off. My Corns carried on eating, breeding and behaving exactly as they did before. My conclusion was that they obviously didn't miss the lights, so they didn't need them to start with. The natural sunlight that they get seems to do the trick.

The only lights I have now are a couple of spots that I use in winter only, to boost the temps in the higher levels of my three foot tall vivs.
