Lighting/ Nocturnal observation

Matt Jones for Pres
Hey everyone. I was just wondering, I heard that the red lights are good to use at night because snakes cant see them. Is this true? If it is would that be a perfect way to observe my snake at night when it is most active? (assuming that i am sitting still silently observing) :sidestep:

that or the night glo light , I find that light is better then the red colored one.
What color light is the night glo? And why do you prefer it. Also, When it is on, the snake can't tell at all? and does it give off heat like a normal light?
Thanks for the info.

If i'm not mistaken... most of the night glow's come in a deep blue almost black light looking light. As far as I know the snakes can't see it and are active with it on just as much as when it is off. They also make the lights in both heat and non-heat bulbs. I turn the light on and have it aim down closer to the water bowl and I can watch the snakes come out and go cruising around. One of my snakes is partial to taking midnight bath's and then crusing all around the viv at top speed afterward. It's kinda fun to watch :)

Yea i like the idea of a night glo light. I'm going to look into that too and maybe see if i can find what how the snakes actually react to the different lights. I am wonder though, will a snake really be able to see me if the only light on in the room is that night glow and i am outside the viv. :eek1:

i use a night...

glo lamp from time to time. it's VERY cool, the blue on my albino. i love watching him at night, it's better than television.

Well from what i've read, a glo light can be good for a corn snake at night, because they seem to react to it like moonlight (if it is not too bright). I also think my snow would look awsome under one so I'm guessing that I have no choice but to go pick one up on my lunch break. Oh well.

i'm partial to the night glo's myself but being i'm in corn's home range, i rarely ever need to use a light or any heating device this time of the year.

I just got the night glo and napolean really seemed to like it alot. He was much more active and I was able to quietly observe in the dark while he felt comfortable doing the activities that he normally would only do when nobody was watching...aka everything :)
