Lighting

Hey All,
I just got my Corn Snake today, and paid for a whole set that included everything from heating, to cage, to food, to the snake itself. I was curious of what type of lighting to use and if it is safe to keep it near a normal 40 watt lamp or a fluroecent lamp.
Thanks

A normal bulb is definitely not okay.

Go to a petstore and get either a day-glo or an infared bulb, they're both fairly cheap and you can use them with either a regular desk lamp or you can buy a clamp light.

If you've got an under the tank heater you dont really need a light source.

The thing is, is that the lamps is not there for heat, I already have a heating pad, but the placement is next to a lamp. I was curious if changing to a flurocent ( can't spell that word) would be better. Thanks

Having the aquarium next a lamp say in your living room or bedroom is not going to make a bit of difference. True "regular" light bulbs put off heat and fluroesents do not, but I don't think it's gonna matter in this case. It's a reading lamp, not a lamp used for heating purposes.

Well, if you have a UTH then you dont need lights. Normal sunlight coming into your room will be fine. Corns dont need any special lighting....no UV bulbs or anything. So no worries, just go without any extra lighting.

Having the tank next to a regular lamp is fine as long as it's not left on all day, but having a regular bulb beaming into the tank is not.
