is it harmfull to keep a red light on all the time? or should i just keep it on in the day and turn it off at nite i have timers to use but not set them up yet
inferred is fine to use on a 24hr cycle, it will not interfer with daytime nightime lighting. try an make sure that the temps are were they need to be,86= during the day mid 70's to high 70's at night.
What watt level is recommended for a red bulb? I have seen them from 50 - 150 watts (and have both). The 150 heats nicely (I have it on a dimmer) but the light at the higher end appears almost yellow like an incandescent. The 50w produces less light but also produces less heat.
I guess my question is if the 150w is damaging or stressful to my snake at night.
It also depends on how high yur enclosure is, how big is yur viv? If u have a indcandescent bulb its fine becuz the snakes can't even see it. well which one of yur bulbs gets the rite temps?
Where I live that wouldn't be enough, I use to have mine in a 10gal. tank and 40 watt wasn't enough. If yur enclosure is high the heat from the bulb wont even reach the substrate which is wat you should be reading yur temps from. I just built a new viv (6ftx2ftx2ft) I have to use a 100wt. to get the substrate warm enough
