Live bugs in pet store moss?

I went to PetCo (pet store) and got some moss today for my corn snake so his cage would liven up a little bit (just got him yesterday), but I think it livend up a little too much! Upon pulling the moss out of the bag and placing it into his cage, a larva the size of a meal worm crawled out of the moss! In my mindset where there's one, there's more, so has this happened to anyone else? Should I be concerned? Or do little bugs just come with moss? Or in this case a decent sized larva. Any other little bugs in the moss I should be weary of?

I would imagine it happens a lot. I'm sure they do the best they can, but it would be almost impossible to get every living critter, bugs, eggs, larva, etc out of plants and or plant materials or soils.

The main thing with snakes to watch for would be mites, and you'll probably not have that problem due to moss. But you could end up with something else.

I buy the packaged Sphagnum Moss all the time, and so far I've not found any unwanted critters but it would not surprise me if I did.

Just throw the package in the freezer overnight and that will eliminate most unwanted guests in the moss. :)

When i had my pet store I would freeze all the bird seed too due to unwanted pests that came in it...
