live mice better than frozen?

is it better to feed live mice rather than frozen? because it seems like everybody here is feeding their snakes frozen mice. is there a problem with live?

Look jazn -don't get me wrong.. I'm not picking on you specifically or anything, but there are ways to go about things here. The 'Feeders' area of this forum is an area where we talk about looking after or problems with our feeder mouse colonies. Make yourself familiar with the catagories early on in your time here and it makes it easier for you in the long run.

Most of us feed FT for a number of reasons including care for the mouse's welfare, the risk of injury to the snake from a scared mouse, parasite transfer which is mostly eliminated by freezing, cost, convenience, etc.

There is no 'need' to feed live but some snakes can be difficult little pricks and refuse frozen at the beginning. IMHO, frozen/thawed is best for owner, snake, mouse and wallet.

Use f/t. Cheaper, more convinient, no risk of injury to the snake, no risk of parasite transfer, and its more humane. Corn snakes aren't exactly the strongest constrictors so it may take 2 minutes or so for the mouse to die. I feed my boa f/t and she knows no different. I have tried live for a holiday, she turns her nose up, I guess thats a smart boa.
