Live Plants for Snake?

Hi to everyone once again! I wanted to know if anyone puts any live plants in their terrariums? My cousin has a friend who kept real plants in with his snake (which was a baby python I believe). If anyone uses live plants or knows of any SAFE live plants for in a viv, I'd sure be interested in hearing about it! Thanks!

live plants

Its called the european style viv, with live plants and runing water. I have tried live plants before and found it hard to maintain them. The one that had worked was called the snake plant. It sort of looks like a caktas, but it does not have toomany needles. But I do use real leaves, and real ground cover. I want to upgrade to a water fall, bigger pcs of wood. That is when I will build my own viv.

I use

for my viv and this is an easy growing plant as well philodendrons. They don't need much light and mine seems to be thriving very well with new growth. I don't have it planted in dirt but, it is in a small containter with water and rocks to keep it secure. If the snake makes a mess on it , its also much easier to clean. Also I have seen some sites that use air plants attached to a log. Just need to mist those once a week.

Alot of folks use fake plants that you can get at a craft shop much more cheaper then buying at a pet store for plastic plants.

When I did a search I just typed in safe plants for reptiles and that is how I found which plants are safe for the snakes.

Meg - I have no idea what a pothos plant is. I'm on the east coast...are they available at any nursery or garden center?

They are a type of philodendron, easy to grow indoor plant. I'm sure you've seen them. Most supermarkets, nurseries and the like sell them. When they get large they will drape. Here's what they look like.

Thanks Meg! I'll have to go out and look for one. That's a nice set up you have...what size tank?

The large one on top is a 30 gl. The smaller one is 15. I think I'll probably go with a couple of large rubbermaids for the two new hatchlings I'm getting. I think it'll be easier to stack that way. I have so little room in my house.
