Live to f/t help?

redneck

Mmmm BEER.
I'm getting a adult charcoal from my friend "for free" that is healthy and the only meal it has passed up in the last 8 months is due to being in blue. the only problem is it has been eating live adult mice or small rats never been fed f/t.
will it be harder to convert since it has been eating rats? i have convert my other snake and my friends to f/t but just wondering if the fact it eats rats will make it harder :shrugs:

I'd first just try a FT mouse. I might skip a meal so he is extra hungry to begin with. Then I'd give him every chance of success- either blow dry the mouse, which makes it dry _and_ hot, or else at least get it really, really dry with paper towels. Cut four slits in the back- when I first started slitting, ALL my snakes went crazy. Now they're used to it. Put him in a feeding container and cover him up.

I have gotten a hatchling and a three year old from VMS, which feeds live. Both took FT, no questions asked, first try.

My WC corn took FT, first try. He'd probably never even seen a mouse before!

My yearling tri-color hoggy from Neil Golli, who'd always been fed live, took FT first try.

I don't know if Carol or Joe Pierce feed live or not, but every single one of those babies took FT, first try.

Ok, so if that doesn't work, I'd try a fresh-killed, see if he'll take that. Then go blow-dried FT on the next meal.

thanks. i didn't have a problem with my amel, but just wasn't sure with the fact that it eats rats.
i will post some pics once my new guy settles in. He is a well fed tank lol
