I wanted to know what yall thought about the ESU lizard litter Plus substrate. It says on the bag that it is safe for corns. My corn Wrangler seems to like it. He went to burrowing right a way. It seems to do a good job helping mantain moisture and the temps. It looks really good and suppose to be extra safe. I wanted yalls opinion.
 
I've used it in the past. Never had any issues with it. I've got all my snakes back on aspen now and find it better for spot cleaning. The lizrd litter was just too loose for my taste, snakes were always moving it around forming piles and leaving bare glass showing on the tank bottom, and of course they would defecate on the bare glass, making cleaning more of a chore.
 
I agree poop on bare glass expecially when it gets cooked on is a pain in the ass!!! Isn't lizard litter the walnut shell stuff? I was looking at it and wanted to use it for leos.
 
no thst desert litter. It doesn't really work good for leos but lizard litter does.
 
lizard litter is made of...actually I don't know what its made of. :) But I use desert litter (the crushed walnut shell) for my beardeds and it works great, but leos just seem to sink into it. Its great for no dust, but my leo just hates it.
 
Well I have my leos on calci sand now. I want to try calci sand with a mixture of eco earth for a corn, it would probably be good for burrowing.

It isn't. The calci-sand is too fine and doesn't "distribute" like aspen shavings. Imagine taking "pick up sticks" or toothpicks, and chopping each one into one hundred pieces. Add to that an "expandable" hydrated substrate like Eco-Earth, and you're basically making a sludge better suited for masonry than for burrowing.

Why do you say that? The breeder I just recently bought my hatchling from highly recommended Lizard Litter to me, and it seems to be working very well so far. Did you have a bad experience with it or something??

Because it sucks. Aspen is a much better choice.
 
Hmm... I think you may be right. I did a search for Lizard Litter, and it sounds like it may be too dry for the snake. I feel dumb now. :(

I think aspen does sound like the best choice, though you don't have to be so rude about it, Joejr. ;)
 
I changed my mind. To everyone who says that Lizard Litter/crushed walnut shells "suck," I just wanted to let you know that my snake just had his first shed, and it was a perfect shed! I was told that it might have been too dry because of the Lizard Litter, but everything went fine, and I only misted him once (during his blue phase).

It's also a lot easier to clean and it's easier to spot poop, because it stands out against the light brown color. I'm sticking with it, and I highly recommend it.

Sorry, but nobody is really going to agree with you.

Clearly it is your snake and you can use whatever substrate you want, but you've read enough threads to know it's not suggested, so why risk it? What is the point, really? Just because the snake shed fine doesn't mean the substrate is a good choice. Plus, you just said you misted. I never mist---most people don't and never have problems with aspen.

I don't understand why so many people refuse to use aspen.

And btw, poop stands out just fine against aspen.

I would have to agree with Joejr about aspen. I cant say anything bad or good about lizrd litter becasue i've never used it. But for me, i would always use aspen, the light color makes poop stand out and it allows the snake to burrow(my snake loves it).

I haven't got my snake yet but i had one years ago and just used sand. He did fine, but i read that its not recommend. I'm getting some stuff together before I get my new 6 month old maybe. I ended up ordering "EXO-TERRA FOREST BARK" I don't know if it was a good choice except that I shouldn't feed him over it. Let me know what you guys think. Need a picture of it? Also how old should a snake be before you should take it from a breeder?

Forest Bark is okay. Some people have complained about the minute particles being a problem.

Definitely do not feed on it, though.

Hatchlings can be brought home from the breeder almost immediately. Most won't sell until they eat two meals.
