Lost Snake Found, Not eating, Need help

Around Christmas my four year old girl got her snake Fluffy out of his cage to play with him before anyone else was awake. She couldn't remember if she put him away or not and after a few more questions it seemed she had left him on the Kitchen table. We looked around the kitchen, moved the fridge and stove and found no sign of Fluffy. After a few months we gave up and figured we would find him dead someday, or possibly the dog got him.

So you could imagine my surprise when 6 months later my husband came up stairs from the basement with a live snake in his hands. He said he found him crawling into the bathroom, from the bedroom. I couldn't believe it. Fluffy is an 06 so he is still pretty young. Right away we got him into his cage got him some water and I thawed a mouse. We have two other snakes, princess and tinkerbell, so I still had everything set up for him. I just tried feeding him, thinking he has got to be starving and he is showing no interest. He was always a very aggressive feeder before.

Should I worry and keep trying, or should I just give him a few days. I can't imagine the last 6 months have been easy on him. He doesn't look like he has gotten much smaller but I don't think he has grown at all either. He used to be bigger than the other two, but now they are about the same size. He was also covered in spider webs.

I could use the advice, now that he his home I like to see him back to his old self. Also anyone have any idea how he could have survived that long? I'm pretty sure we don't have mice or we would have seen some sign of them. Snakes won't eat spiders will they?

Being the snake is so young he might be to far off and you might not be able to save him.

Take the smallest pinky you can and cut off its head, offer the snake the head alone in a small shoebox. Leave him with the pray for 30 minutes. If he does not take it try again later. If he takes it make sure not to distrub him and keep the temperatures at 85 degrees on the warm side. I hope he will turn around!

Do you have any pictures?

Make sure he has plenty of water, hides and the temps are right and leave him alone for a few days. Most likely he's slightly dehydrated and scared. After a few days I'd offer a small pinky. If he doesn't seem interested you might want to try braining and/or slitting. You might have to go live to get him feeding again but that won't be for a while. The water is the big deal right now IMO. Good luck and keep us updated.

Snakes are experts at finding food in small places, and surviving in an environment with limited food. he probably cleaned out a few nests of tiny rodents you didn't even know were there. That and his slow metabolism helped him stay alive longer then any of us would expect with minimal food. It's also possible that he brumated in the basement for a couple months. I would say just let him rest for a few days, with plenty of water, then try feeding again.

Follow what PtDnsr stated above and you should be fine but I know it's still worrisome!

He Ate!!

Last night I offered him a pinky and he took it right away. :) I check on him today and he's kept it down. I think he's gonna make it. Thanks for your replies.

Great!

Be sure NOT to rush it! Allow him time to FULLY digest the meal before offering him anther. And leave the handling to zero!
