Came home 40 mins ago went into the snake room and went to check on my Gravid Striped Amel that is 4 days past her pre-lay shed. Well I went to open her tub, and found the lid loose!!! Now, I keep all my corns in racks, well all except 6 that are in 32qt. tubs in a stack in the room as I am in need of more Rack.
Didn't panic at first as I figured I left the lid loose when I checked on her this afternoon, and being she is about 6 days from laying I would find her in the moss in the lay box.... NOPE!!! GONE!!!
I immediately closed the door and started my search, cleared the snake room, no sign..then I realized she prolly went under the door and could be anywhere in the 2 floors of the house. I haven't had an escape in years, and knew my chances of finding her now were slim. What worried me most was that she is loaded with eggs.
Quick scan of the upstairs living room, kitchen, bathroom ect.. nothing went into the upstairs Bedroom and behold what did the peripheral vision catch.... but about 2 inches of striped GRAVID amel tail sliding behind the dresser!!
Had that heavy dresser moved in seconds and scooped her up!!
Lucky save, odds were so stacked against me,... but this time Murphy gave me a Mulligan!
BTW, This Amel is the one I had bred to another striped amel and a motley, twice to each male, alternating each time. I can't wait to see if the clutch pips stripes, motley, or both!

That was lucky! I'm glad you did some quick searching and actually saw the tail. I'd have missed it for sure. Even if it was orange. Glad she's back safe where she needs to be.

Wow that was soooo lucky!!! Great for you!!! Now to see those pippies when they get here.

Whew!! I can't imagine what was going through your mind!! I probably would've started freaking out if I couldn't find her during my first round of hunting!! I'll take Mulligans' any which way...anyday!! ;) Glad to hear the good news and I can't wait to see the pics start rollin in!

I had sort of a similar experience last year. I had a 4 year old pair that I wanted to breed and had been cohabbed their entire lives due to the unrelated breeders info and my ignorance (all my snakes are kept individually now, no worries). Anyway, I never saw them mate, and we spent the first 2 weeks of May in Europe. I hadn't noticed anything different when we left...she was eating, acting normal, whatever. We had someone coming to our house to care for the pets and I had moved the snake tank to a convenient location for him to only need to fill the water. Well when we got back, I moved the cage, and about 30 minutes later saw my male sitting behind a chest. Noticed the screen lid wasn't clipped down (thanks caretaker friend) and found the female a couple days later wandering around. Less than a week later she laid a small clutch. I just can't help but think about what would have happened if our trip had been a week later or longer or I hadn't found her! That's some good luck!

Well, this clutch has pipped and emerged.. glad I found her as it is a dandy! :)

Like I said I bred her to an Amel Stripe and also to an Amel Motley.. alternating the males for 4 solid hook ups.. After 67 days in the incubator this is the result.. Stripes, Motleys, and Cubes. Also got one Snow stripe, not pictured.
