Lucy lou My corn! :) help identifying?

OH ... and some snakes will go off their feed when in blue (shed mode) and some will even go off their feed, for a week +, prior to even going into deep blue.

(Had forgotten that you mentioned she didn't seem as bright, as usual, and the possibility of shedding soon)

ive got on average warm side 28-30 C (82-85 F ish) and cold side is 24-26 C (75-80 F)
the middle reads between 25 - 29 depending on how far left or right you are? this is wa previos owner had her at when she ate fine.

ive upped it a little and made the take a bit more humid witha damp hide and wet a rock she doesnt use much!

Don't worry - she'll use the humid hide if she thinks she needs it. You'll get used to her preferences as you get to know her.

went to the reptile shop near me today and they probed her for me. what i expected to come out didnt and instead it looked like white gooey stuff. it turns out she is female and is ovulating so have set up a warm humid moss hide for her to lay her eggs in. this would explain why shes not eating! thanks for all your help guys!

any idea how long i could be waiting for her to lay her eggs? will she shed then eat after laying?

thanks for the continued help! :) x

As you're in Bournemouth, I guess you went to Reptiles Plus? They know their stuff, so it's good to get their view on her.

If she's going to lay, that could be any time in the next few weeks. As you don't know her history (whether/when she was mated) and haven't had her long enough to know her seasonal changes, it's really difficult to say. If she's off her food, it should hopefully be quite soon.

Sometimes they will take a small mouse a day or two after laying, sometimes they will refuse until after they shed. It seems to be an individual preference. All you can do is offer food and see what happens.

Beware that just because she's ovulating, that doesn't necessarily mean that she'll lay eggs, or that any eggs will be fertile. One of mine has really exaggerated ovulations that make her look and act gravid, but she just reabsorbs the ova and starts eating again after a few weeks.

yeh they said there was definately some heavy fluid in there! they guy who had her before me had a 9ft royal python too so im guessing she wasnt mated with him! Lol that would be incredibly wrong and very scary!

yeh it was reptile plus! brilliant place! all the baby corns in the rack! Lol very hard to come out empty handed!

thanks! :) x

Glad I could help. Nice to meet another "local"!

P.S. Better steer clear of the shop in August, as that's when I start to take them my hatchlings. Lovely bright yellow Butter Motleys with a partial stripe effect... mmmmm...

guessing your not far from bournemouth! wonder if they will want any more breeders. i have a 4 yr old female and am going to be looking for a male about the same age/size so i have a pair that i can eventually breed. :) have no idea what male i want though! what would work brilliantly with an amel? :S :)
