Don't diss the Osmonds, without them 'Crazy horses' wouldn't exists!

you were alive and old enough to realize what she brought to music in the 80s. she encouraged and influenced young girls everywhere - we'd probably have much fewer female musicians today if it weren't for her.

We're talking rock & roll not pop. Pat Benatar or Grace Slick are rockers. :shrugs: IMO Madonna's appeal was more than likely a role model to Britney Spears & Christina Aguilera.
Should they be considered rockers too? I guess Celine Dion is a candidate also.

I always consider the term 'Rock & Roll, to mean a life style. A high end musician...LOL
Not just a type of music, when talking rock & roll hall of fame.
 
the definition of "Rock and Roll" has certainly changed through the years.

but, if you're going to complain about Madonna, perhaps you need to look over some past inductees and wonder how they're "Rock and Roll"

BB King, Prince, Jackson Brown, Roy Orbison, Isaac Hayes, Simon and Garfunkel, Parliament, Bee Gees, Jackson 5, Rod Stewart, Ike and Tina Turner, Hank Williams, Grandmaster Flash, Leonard Cohen, Miles Davis... the list goes on...

now, some of the above i like, others (ie BeeGees) kill me to see on the list...

Madonna perfected pop, no argument there - it was effortless for her, or so it seemed. Unfortunately, it was also soul-less. In that respect, she doesn't hold a candle to Grace, Joni, Janis, or Tina.

I think a parallel can be drawn between Clapton and Eddie van Halen. I'll never disagree that Eddie is a technical genius, but Eric puts himself into the music.

The term Rock-n-Roll has a wide meaning....

when it comes to the HOF yes. Madonna and her type of music certainly qualify. My humble opinion, she doesn't belong. AT first the HOF was for long time musicians with long careers. Those who put out year after year and keep going. To my knowledge, Madonna hasn't even put out an album much less a hit lately. Her popularity may still exist, but the music?

I don't follow the HOF (any HOF for that matter they are all a popularity contest) but I don't think RUSH or Queensryche are members. Both over 25 years of steady, good work. For me, by those standards, Madonna doesn't cut the mustard.

Personally, I'm not bothered at all. She's the most sucessful female musician of all time, and the requirements for entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are that you must have majorly influenced the music industry, and it must be at least 25 years since you released your first album. So she satisfies that.

However, I am bothered that Rush aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (if that's the case). Rush boasts 24 gold records and 14 platinum (3 multi-platinum) records. These statistics place Rush fifth behind The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Kiss and Aerosmith for the most consecutive gold and platinum albums by a rock band... The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame lacks progressive rock bands, I think Pink Floyd and the Sex Pistols are the only ones (even though the Sex Pistols described the R&RHOF as a 'pee stain' (I thought I'd use the more polite version) :grin01:
