Mail-order bride~ apparently I didn't have enough mouths to feed!

Apparently I didn't have enough mouths to feed~ So after two years of whining about how much our rough neck monitor Rico eats~ I bought him a mail order bride. (I'm still trying to figure out the logic there~ it defeats me!)

So~ here she is~ Goblin~ an 01' CH black rough neck monitor who has produced infertile eggs in both 04 and 05. We are hoping Rico will be able to help her out with the fertility on her clutches (no male involved for the other two clutches~ so a good chance Rico could have the missing "ingrediant"!). Could be a bit of a challenge though~ as both Goblin and Rico have not met another monitor since being hatchlings........I'm hoping introductions won't result in the destruction of my very nice display cage!!! (gonna introduce them in the YARD several times before they move in together in the glass front cage!)

Goblin (and yes~ for a rough neck she is very attractive~ no scaring or anything!)

If you squint your eyes you can see how beautiful she really is~ you can't see it? Have another shot......can you see it now?

And Rico in his finest digs (he was WC as a baby in 04 and has some scarring)

Here's to hoping for a happy & fertile lifetime union!

What is the difference between a black roughneck monitor and a brown roughneck monitor.

If ever I were to find myself with more spare time and ALOT more space, I would get a roughneck in a heartbeat. They're my favorite of the monitors, and I hear they tame down rather nicely. I LOVE monitors...they're little dinosaurs.

So you did end up getting another. I thought you were joking at the show when you were talking about it. I love 'em both.

Jenn~ I'm not really sure what the difference is. I've not been a serious monitor keeper before~ Rico was a gift to my husband from a friend for his B-day in 04......and since then I've pretty much just whined about how much work and money Rico costs.......

I do agree that they look like something out of jarasic park~ When Rico was a baby he really looked just like those velocoraptors in the movie!

Trevor~ I really don't know why I bought Goblin~ except that I really do love Rico a lot more than I'm generally inclined to admit. He is a lot of work, and very expensive~ but he's such a great observation animal and I really enjoy working with him (despite my contant complaining!) I'm sure I'll complain just as much about Rico even now~ but I won't be complaining to much about Goblin~ somehow it's easier to complain about Scotts pet than the one I bought! LOL!

Cool!

I haven't seen one of those in a long time! We had a nice little group of them back in the late '70s, but they didn't do well long term. After losing several, we gave up and sold the others. But I have always liked them a lot! Babies will be SO CUTE if you get some!

Brown roughneck is the name usually given to Dumerill's monitors. They also have some rough scales on the neck and are shades of brown in color. But they have shorter necks and are often quieter and less nervous than V. rudicollis (sp?) like yours. They are great monitors too, but I love those long necked blacks - they seem kind of bird or dinosaur like.

Good luck! Let us know if you get eggs!
