I've just adopted my first snake, a darling little snow corn snake. I'm trying to do my best as a beginner, and this forum has helped a lot, thanks! :) I'm wondering, though. The snake is in my room, which is at the top level of the house, and it's always pretty warm up here. The temperature at the top of the substrate is around 78-82 degrees F during the day, without a heat lamp or pad.
Does this mean he's okay without a heat source? I've got a heat lamp, but I'm concerned that this makes it too warm.

What should I do? Do I leave the viv as it is, or do I need to turn the lamp on half of it? Or maybe even cool one side off? Sorry for the noob question, but I appreciate everyone's help! ^^;;
 
well 1) i wouldnt use heat lamps for corns since they need BELLY heat to digest :)

and 2.. while he SHOULD be ok.. theres always a chance of the room cooling off a bit so mabey get a small heating pad and just plug it in when the room cools off?
 
Heat lamps tend to warm the air more the the substrate so ditch the lamp. As far a the temps too warm, I suggest a thermostat to regulate the temps on your uth.That the best route to go.

Speaking from experience, when it gets that warm in my house, I usually unplug my UTHs. My snakes do fine this way.

I do recommend you have one, with a lamp dimmer or thermostat, though, just in case the temp drops.
