Male & Female Together

If you put a male with a female for mating purposes, will they "go at it" straight away or is it a give it some time thing? I am thinking of breeding my two of mine but wasnt sure how to go about it.

Thanks

I'm not an expert but I think they will only mate in a certain period like januari-april. My guys 'went at it' straight away :p

From what I understand you could create a breeding 'off season' by brumating your snakes for a short period. If they are ready they will start to mate very soon (although some people leave them overnight or for a couple days). My observations they hook up within 0-30 min and stay that way for a while mine were like 30-45 min. Generally brumation starts sometime in Nov. ends Feb., the snakes are warmed up fed..., after their post brumation shed if they are fit they will be bred, or some may wait until after the next shed. Just a side note not all people brumate. So actaul breeding takes somewhere between March and June, give or take people starting earlier or going later. Many adult males will go on a hunger strike form Feb/March -May/June eating very little if at all and having only one thing on their mind.
All of this is based on the fact that your snakes are old enough and big enough to breed??? this is just the tip of the iceberg on breeding, hope this helps, susan

I'd recommend reading Kathy Love's book from cover to cover before breeding plans. If snakes are introduced before the female is old enough and big enough to safely breed they could mate anyway, which could lead to losing your female due to egg-binding or to just having too much taken out of her by the process of clutching

I brumated my guys this winter and it took more then a month or "interaction" before they finally locked up.
