Male vs Female

I am planning on getting a corn snake. I will be a newbie at snakes and i have done a lot of research and feel I am ready. The only thing that i can not find is the advantages or differences of getting a male over a female or vice versa. I only plan on getting one so breeding is not a problem. thnx in advance.

I don't think it matters much.

My males and females are equally calm and sweet. I'd watch out for the "only going to get one" part of your statement. They become quite addictive very quickly. We've only had snakes for 11 months...and we have 31.

we got our "only one"in September. We now have 1 normal,1 anery,1albino jungle and 1 creamsicle. They are very addictive!!!

When I got my first corn I thought one would be enough, how ever now I have about 45 corns and I love them all so much. I don't think it makes any difference if your going to get a fem or a male snake since you aren't breeding.

Good Luck on getting only one Corn snake. I never get one of anything myself. But 2 years ago when I got my first pair of Corns I had no plans to end up with 50 snakes. They are the best!!

Go for a male

If you just want one...get a male,
there tends to be a surplus of males with most (many) breeders and you have better chance of getting a prime pick sent to you if requesting a lone male.
also many breeders charge a surcharge for lone females and a male can be your best deal.
Some also have a minimum $ order.

Live arrival and satisfaction guarantees vary from non-existent to more than generous guarantees,I've seen legitimate offers of up to 7 month satisfaction assured return privileges, now thats a guarantee.

Remember the old addage:'"Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten" and is very true when applied to livestock.
The best doesn't cost that much more, especially with Corn Snakes, compared to other species.
(i.e. Bolivian,double banded.Scarlet macaws = $5000 a pair for the nice ones)
A Hundred bucks or so for the latest and the greatest morph's , 25 bucks for a baby Okeetee, what a deal, what a fun hobby IMHO :

If you think you may want to breed later on, possibly, it sure is handy to have some great stock sitting there staring up at you already ;)

If you decide to order one online,
you can check if there reputable or not at www.faunaclassifieds.com
and then click Reptiles and amphibians
and then find:

"The Original Board of Inquiry"

and search the persons name and / or there biz's name before you send off your money. Don't see em or not very reassuring reports, order elsewhere:D

Many Wolves in Sheeps clothing out there, always has been, always will be,
so Buyer Beware
