I fed Salazar two little pinkies today.. and it was his first time eating Frozen/thawed. I thawed them in hot tapwater and then i laid them on a paper towel. WHen i put him in the feeding cage with the pinkys he didn't even notice them. Usually when i fed him live it takes him a few seconds to smell/notice. But we watched him and he kind of ignored them... so i took the lid off and scooted one of the pinkies until it was litterally on top of him!!! then he snapped it right up! But he ait it from the tail first!!! LOL :grin01: So then he sat there and swallowed that one and started smelling the second pinky. but instead of "striking" it.. i think he realized it was dead.. he just slowly opened his mouth and ate it.. it was kind of weird. But he swallowed the second one and started sniffing around like he wanted another one!!! but it was my first time feeding 2 pinkies so i put him back in his home and he hid for a while, but now its getting dark and hes out climbing on his branch. Man.. hes a pig :eats02:
 
oh i forgot to add the question.. LOL.. how active is your snake after feeding? i thought they basically didn't move for 1-2 days after eating, but salazar always comes out the night that i feed him, while he's not very active, he did climb up his branch.

On a side note (don't really want to start a new thread) is there any easy way to sex a corn snake??? any defining characteristics, head shape, tail shape etc?
 
We just fed our girl for the first time last night and after she finished the mouse and we put her back she drank a ton of water and hid out. Ive never seen a snake drink that much, but I guess you would have a bit of dry mouth after a mouse :D lol
 
Mine are usually quiet for a day or two unless the food size wasn't enough. Then they'll be active after feeding, and all the days after too. The only way to reliably sex a corn is to probe it.
 
Are you feeding every 3 days??? Your post about "I fed the snake for the first time today" was on Monday
 
well the first time was actually last Tuesday. Then i fed him this monday, and yes i did feed him yesterday, but it was only because the pinky i got on Monday was sooo tiny, he didn't even have a lump. So i finally got some frozen and fed him two yesterday and he is finally full. No regurgitation or anything. I am going to wait a full 7 days between feedings now that i know 2 pinkies is good.
 
he actually stayed in his house for a few days.. i fed him thursday and today is saturday and he didn't come out last night. I think i finally filled him up.. LOL.. two pinkies/week sounds good now huh?
 
becus he is still growing you might what to feed him more often, you can feed him ever 5 days with out power feeding him
 
5-7 days.. but 7 days is easier because otherwise i lose track. I know that sounds silly but My life can get pretty hectic.
 
mark it down on a calendar every 5 days, you'll see it makes a cool pattern. (like the knight moves in chess)

you do get pretty excited about that chess pattern, don't you? I seem to remember a post (or whole thread maybe) about this not too long ago :laugh:
 
yeah.. you should see my calender, it has my paydays marked on it, my husbands paydays and how much i need to put in each account each week... LOL.. its my budgeting system. I guess i could use a colored marker or something.. and put an S on the days Salazar is supposed to be fed.
