Martial Arts~~anyone ?

Apparently myself... We were just doing drills at the time (no partner).

hmm..time to get back into it?...;)

I got to purple belt in Tae Kwon Do in college. Really enjoyed it, but cannot afford it here. It's like $125 a month.

Oh wow! That's great!...how unfortunate its not more financially accessible for everyone to enjoy and continue...$125.00 a month is pretty hefty:awcrap:

I used to practice Kung Fu... like about 18 years ago. I took individual classes... meaning no belt. I really like to do Kata, so that's what I practiced. My sensei thought that I could really go far in that I was able to do the forms really well, but it got expensive and I had to drop out. I love the look of all martial arts, but think (My own opinion) that Kung Fu is simply BEAUTIFUL. So much so that watching Kung Fu Panda brought tears to my eyes... "the bridge fighting scene".

I enjoy the kata's too :D Although some movements feel so...awkward when you first learn them...like patting your head and rubbing your tummy at the same time..lol

Took Tae Kwon Do as well.

Cool! I was thinking about trying ju jitsu..when I have a little more experience :)

Well.. I USED to be in a "Full Circle" martial arts school. It was a course in my alternative school, we however drifted away from that school for a couple years (meaning we drifted away from the martial arts class aswell) however, in a couple week's when my orientation class end's I'll be going back - when I left I was at my blue belt(this school only had 5 belts, white, yellow, blue, red and black.) I think I was 13 at the time - went to numerous tournaments competeing in kata and sparring.. I always got 1st, but then again, I think there was one tournament where I automatically got first because it was seperated by age and rank - so I was too young to be in the same category as some of the people my rank, making me the only one in my category winning first automatically.

I'm gonna stop my bragging now.:awcrap:

That's really great! I was unable to be at the tournie this year, but I'm going to enter next year :)

I practise karate, JKA Shotokan. In October it will be 14 years.
2 years ago I earned my black belt (1e Dan) and normally in 2009 I will do my exam for 2e Dan.

whew..that's alot of years of hard work :)...how wonderful that you acomplished it..Congrats!

I'm really interested in Krav Maga and might try it sometime :)

I really love Karate...you should set out to try what your interested in...you'll never know until you try ;)

I also played around with Kenpo karate (that is what my local studio is, but at this point far too expensive) and in college did a little bit of Kendo which is Japanese swordsmanship. But I never went very far in either of those. I really miss martial arts actually.

(Forgot to mention these in my NFL-stupor last night)

Got a few pics...

That's awesome...nice pictures! I can't imagine breaking a board with my foot..lol...maybe there are other programs out there that you would be able to get into that aren't so bloomin' costly:awcrap: Thanks for sharing your pictures...they are really good, and give me inspiration :)

I Am A sensei For GKR Karate I love it

I'm learning...slowly but surely..lol...I love it too :D

Have a green belt in Tae kwon do, My daughter has a
1st degree black belt in Karate, tae kwon do, and tung so do, my son is working on his 2nd degree black belt in Tae kwon do.

Wow! That's is great that you are all into martial arts :D I hope to acheive my goals :)

I took Kempo Karate for a lot of my teenaged years.. I never totally excelled but I loved the full contact sparring.. Of course that was about 60lbs lighter..

If I ever became known as a "martial arts guy" it would be a huge injustice to martial arts guys everywhere lol. But I did take Tae kwon do when I was a kid- reached some random level that I can't remember. I DID have a lot of fun though..
In later years I took some kung fu for a while.. Chuga (chukar, however it's spelled) or southern praying mantis kung fu. That is something I would really love to do more of.. But I do it like I dance, lol. Not very well.
I also had another bit of time with tae kwon do when I was in Korea, the Army does it some days for morning PT (physical training on days that we don't feel like running.)

I love dancing too :) Good exercise as well! You should look into doing something you enjoy ;)

LOL. Reading this thread makes me want to try Kung Fu again... but it would HILARIOUS to see me try to do what I used to with an extra 40 lbs on my belly... AND being 22 years older...

Actually, it makes me want to cry..... :crying:

You can do it...no matter your age or size...its great exercise...and does wonders for your self confidence too. I feel much more secure with myself :)

I did wrestling and Judo (kind of) for about 2 years... I'm not that into martial arts, and I was always the only girl but it was fun. Hard though, because my weight classes were different for both so I just drank and ate a lot before Judo practice and made sure I exactly weighed 48 kilo.

We are pretty equal with the ratio of males and females in our class, which makes it nice ...I'm the lowest ranking adult in the class though...sometimes makes it hard to keep up with the higher ranks...lol

I find sparring awkward..lol...and the guys are always afraid to make any contact with me..lol..so I feel like they are missing out by having to spar with someone of lesser rank...but I learn alot from them :)

I would pull punches when sparring against the girls.. Never ever did feel right about hitting a woman.. Might just be I am old fashioned or something..

I did Tae Kwon Do for several years. Did a bit of Bujinkan after that...really wanted to continue that, but there aren't any schools near here. I've yet to find a dojo around here that I really like, so I'm kickboxing at the gym now. Not quite the same, but I suppose it's about as good as it's going to get for the moment.

If I do anything it'll be thai chi (not sure if its spelled right). Less chance of stitches that way...

I always stuggled with my left side, so when I sparred a lot of stuff came right and people would figure that out quick. The one time I sparred a person of lesser rank, he broke my finger and it swelled up like a salami for two weeks. After that I stayed with the same sparring partner. We're still good friends in spite of trying to kick the crap out of each other for years.

I was one belt away from having a black belt in Tae Kwon Doe when I quit about for years ago(We moved). Its been long enough that I can't remember what belt I was, plus it doesn't help that different places have a different color/level order.

I am extremely interested in Southern Praying Mantis style Kung Fu (Chu Gar?), I just need to find a reasonable instructor in my area.
