MBK mating...too much blood?

Kali

lost cause
I was so happy my MBK's hooked up almost immediately.
They have been locked for more than 2 hours now, I just went checking and there is a puddle of blood there. I know that when my corns mate, there can be a bit of blood, but isn't this way too much? This is my first non-corn mating, so I'm not sure. They're still locked now, as in the last pic.
Is there anything I can do?

Thanks for any help.

While you wait for the experts to arrive, I would say, if I saw that quality of blood after one of my procedures at work, I would think that was a little blood in a lot of something else. It doesn't look like pure blood, it looks like a little blood coloring probably a normal amount of semen. But how would the semen spill out if the snakes were still locked?

Again, until expert help arrives, I believe kingsnakes stay locked a LONG time, compared to corns, and I would just check them both over after they separate. make sure the hemipene is completely tucked back into the tail, and the female looks undamaged in the cloaca area.

I believe trying to cause them to separate would likely cause harm.

Thanks Nanci, I indeed didn't try to seperate them as I was afraid to hurt them.
I just checked them again, they had seperated and Alice (the male) had bitten her in the neck and was trying to start the mating all over again. Hey no way, I have to go to sleep urgently! :) So I held his tail away from hers until he let go of her neck and they're safely in their own vivs again now. I guess I bothered them with it (especially him:D), but I'm not letting him start over again immediately.
I checked them both over, and they both look good, and his hemipene is tucked in fine.
I'm really relieved:dancer:

And excited!!! I just might have little MBK's this year!!! :dancer::dancer::dancer:
