I was just looking at them... and the things that require one. It seems they don't want ya breeding or selling without one. Well if you have a permit there are some rule that apply to you and your records....

"Maryland regulations state that anyone possessing a Captive Reptile and Amphibian Permit/License must keep a record of any transaction involving each individual reptile and amphibian in possession. These forms must be updated immediately after every transaction occurs. These forms will be provided to you by the Permits Coordinator of the Wildlife and Heritage Service."

"A certificate of origin, bill of sale, or other documentation must include:

1. Common name

2. Scientific name

3. Number of individuals by species

4. Date of transaction

5. Name and address of seller, including Maryland permit number, when applicable."





anyone have ANY experience with MD permits? If you go to a show in PA and pick up a corn do ya just take a "bill of sale" with ya and fill it out right there or what??


I am sure I have other questions about this ... I will think of them later...

WHEN DON'T YOU NEED A PERMIT?
You do not need a permit to possess:

up to 4 individuals of each reptile and salamander from List A. These may have been obtained from the wild, captively produced, or legally obtained from out of state.


an unlimited number of any List A reptile or amphibian which is an albino, partial albino, or other color mutation as a result of captive breeding.

Elaphe guttata guttata is on list "A"
 
I got that but it does say ....

You need a permit if you:

breed, attempt to breed, sell, offer for sale, trade, or barter any reptile or amphibian, including color mutations, native to Maryland regardless of where you obtained it.
 
You're right, it says "including color mutations" for selling and breeding.
I don't see how that helps them regulate anything. Anyone can BUY these animals, you just can't make more without a permit.
 
If you need a MD permit & go to to PA (or buy them anywhere really) you need to get the seller to give you a receipt. You will also need to mark this purchase on your permit renewal report. You don't need to send the receipt to the DNR, but if they come to inspect you (I have 2 inspections since 2005), you may need to show it then and prove that you are keeping records of where you are getting your livestock from as well as who you are selling to.

If you don't qualify as someone needing a permit then it really doesn't matter, though I think it is a good idea to get a receipt anyway.
