Mean as HELL baby

I have 2 out of 18 baby corns that are MEAN AS HELL. One of them even opened it's mouth large enough to make 2 indentchions in my fingers skin. They look at me like they are rattle snakes. WOW :eek1:

I was removing the dead pinkeys that some of the snakes did not eat and this guy stayed coiled and ready to spring at me the entire time I was moving my hand over the top of the container to put the lid back on and he ended up having the first half of his body upside down. I have never seen such a mean cornsnake. And this is a baby to top it all off.

And then to make things worse, They are het for amel and even though not one baby came out orange or red. I did notice that the patches are a dark brown but the surrounding areas are real light. I cant weight to see how they turn out as they get older. Some of the baby's are even starting to join some of there patches together. wow. Does this mean I am getting closer to having striped baby's? :-offtopic

Anyways. The reason behind this posting is not to brag about my baby's but... Will the 2 mean devil baby's ever calm down? I know that as baby's they see me as a giant monster. but man... I have never seen so much hate in a snake. And to top it all off. They are 2 of my best looking snakes. It is almost like they know it and think they are to good for me. hehehe

Will they calm down as they get older or do I have to worry about them growing up to be mean?

With regular handling, and otherwise minimal stress, chances are they will calm down ..... most do.

Or, you could get unlucky and get the one that stays loopy (at least to some degree) for most of it's life.

I have one that like that as well at the moment. Rattled away like crazy the other day when I opened it's tub, bit me when I went to grab him, bit me again when I did grab him (rattling the whole time), kept on rattling when he went back in the tub. Someone is gonna have fun with that one ..... lol. :crazy02:

One of my little amels hatched out with an attitude too! She's settling down a little though. It's amazing how strong their survival instinct is en at only a few minutes old.

Ohhh I had one of those also.... the first time the little booger struck out at me was when I was removing him from the incubator and then ( I use deli cups with soda bottle lids for water) i had noticed he had gotten water on his paper towel so I went to change it... yeap you guessed it ... all coiled up and striking... as soon as i picked up the deli cup *strike*.... as soon as the lid moved *strike*.... as soon as he seen my hand reaching for him *strike*... mean lil booger... but after his first shed and a few handle sessions he was fine...

He's a month old now and he has stopped the tail rattle and striking and he coiles around my fingers when I pick him up now ... it just takes some time for them to get use to us...

think *TRUST* .... Trust is like Respect, you have to earn it...

Cheers!

I have a hatchling (hatched on 7/5) who was like that early on. Since his 1st shed and meal last week, he's calmed down a bit. Doesn't strike as much or try as hard to jump out of my hand. Still got a little ways to go, but he's calmed quite a bit so far. Personally, I think it's really cute seeing them so tiny acting so tough, lol. I take it as a good sign for their long term survival though. They're fighters with a strong survival instinct, which is good to see in young'ens, imo.

Just wanted to show another example that the mean one's can come around. Good luck with em

Harriet had a nasty attitude when I got her...she's getting better now...mostly because I handle her alot. She still rattles her tail when she eats though...just has to tell those little pinky mice who's boss :)
At this point, I find it rather endearing...

Way off topic but TRUE

I am amazed when I see how brave(scared) this little guy is. The wild kingdoms laws sometimes make more sense to me then our laws. Now adays our laws hear in California protect the attackers more then the people that are being attacked.

About 3 months ago I was driving through a shopping center and saw a man grabbing his girlfriend and shaking her while they were arguing and I drove up real fast and hoped out of my truck and told the man to knock it off. The girl ran behind my truck crying and long story short... There were no punches throwing, but the cops told me that they could have taken me in if the man were to press charges, because of some of the words that were exchanged. And with the girl not wanting to press charges against her boyfriend I cant see why I could have gotten arrested.

California laws are all screwed up.

Sometimes I think man over does allot of things. Look at how much of nature we tare down just to put up more homes. What is going to happen in the end?

hehehe :grin01: If this ain't off topic I don't know what is... hehehe I just get this upset about us humans sometimes. I am not even going to delete this message. hehhee

Good on you, perhaps you might have given that girl the confidence to realise that not all men are scum and she could do better.

Have a look at this old thread...

I did a similar thing to you years ago. A girl on a train was getting harassed by her boyfriend and looked really upset so I went over to her and told her she could get off at the next stop with me and call somone from my house to pick her up...she did and she seemed very relieved to get away from him. I'm pretty tough, both mentally and physically and have a good enough self esteem to stand up for myself but seeing bullies picking on the weaker ones just because they can...they need a good slapping!!!

Welcome to my world. I own the H**l B***h. She's finally starting to settle down at one year of age, but for a while I thought she was part rattlesnake!
