measuring snakes

im just wondering you you ppl manage to measure ur snakes. i mean they wont stay still so thats no option. slot of people measure the shedded skins, but i dont think that can be accurate. this is because on the snake you can only se the scales not the skin (unless its fat  ). yet on the shedded skins you can see scales skin and all. imo all i think the skin shows is if you were to over feed it how fat it cud get....
so how do u measure em?

i`ve got this fantastic device.. like a yard stick with a clamp in in end.. put snakes head in clamp, tighten clamp , stretch snake along the stick and there you have an instant reading of your snakes length :E

failing that, if you dont have such a thing as this, you could always try comparative measuring.. find something of a length roughly equal to your snake.. (check this for accuracy when handling), measure the object and you have an approximate idea of your snakes length.

blito, were you joking about the clamp thing??

Yeah, some people just want a general idea of their snakes' lengths- you can use a piece of string and measure the string.

I was SO afraid that you weren't joking. especially due to the lack of smileys in your post

whew! Glad that's cleared up :D
