Melamine terrarium heating

What are safe ways to heat a melamine enclosure? (3/4") I've been looking at the possibilities and having trouble finding them for sale on Canadian websites. So if anyone could suggest safe heating units and if they know of Canadian websites that sell them I would really appreciate it. Same goes for Thermostats. Thank you.

I would recomend a zoomed heat pad and since you would have to stick it directly in the cage you might try placing a ceramic tile over it to prevent it from getting dirty or directly touching the snake. As with any heating ensure you have a way to control the heat.

Why are you using melamine for an enclosure... have you read about the toxicity of it? I'd go with glass or a plastic tote if you dont want/cant afford a large glass one.

I've used melamine vivs for as long as I've had Corns and have had no trouble - they're more common in the UK. Do you have a link to that info? Although I have a 20 year old and two 16 year olds without health issues, I'd be keen to know more.

Thanks.

As for heating, you can use a UTH as I do with all of mine. Ideally place it outside and underneath the viv, as long as the viv is raised slightly off it and the weight doesn't rest on the mat. Otherwise you can use it inside the viv but you'll need to shield it with ceramic tiles or a false floor to prevent contact with poop which can cause damage.

I'm using melamine because it has to be able to support the weight of a boa cage above it, and no I haven't heard anything about the toxicity of melamine. Is there a problem with the lack of air circulation for a uth placed inside and directly under a false floor?

Honestly I have no idea why someone is posting flame about melamine being toxic to snakes its one of the more common materials for custom cages.

Must admit I didn't take it as flame, just a warning given in good faith.

But you guys have put my mind at rest - thanks.

The false floors I've seen are shallow raised platform-type things. They sit over the mat, but not resting directly on it and have an air gap immediately above the UTH.

I use a heat pad designed for use in vivs. You can buy it on Big Apple pet supplies. I have custom melamine cages and use those inside. I cut the plug off, drilled a hole in the viv side, put the cord thru and replaced the plug with one from Home Depot. Works perfectly, and looks very neat. I have thermostats to control the heat.
