Mick's Cornsnake Progeny Predictor 3.0 available for download

Thanks Mike, this is very helpful! I really appreciate putting the bloodred into your program.

I was going to breed my blood and my ghost, but who wants normals even if they are het? I may have to acquire another blood!

One question

Mike, just as minor question; your program says that if I breed my bloodred with my snow, I will get offspring that are het for bloodred and snow. I assume I will get normals that are het for both traits. Is that correct?

Thanks!

Indyshark,
Feel free to call me Mick. Mike seems so formal, and besides it's not my name. :)

Yes, phenotypically (i.e. appearance-wise) they would be normals. Genotypically (i.e. genetically) they would be het for snow (i.e. het for Anerythristic and Amelanistic) and het for Bloodred Pattern. Note that I say Bloodred PATTERN, because that's predictable. Bloodred COLOR (which is a selective/line breeding thing) is not simple, and in fact, your 'hets' may show some Bloodred Color influence. Read about the whole Bloodred thing in the help system or in the hint that pops up when you mouse-over the Bloodred Pattern check-box.

Back to the Phenotypic vs. Genotypic thing... note there's an option to show offspring as Phenotypes (i.e. appearance) only. If you select that option, your example would show 100% normals.

Regards,
Mick

Mick,

Thanks for updating the program. I didn't use it much before because it didn't have many of the traits of the snakes I currently own. But now that that seems fixed, I plan on using it in the next year or so as my yearlings progress into breeding age. =D

I like the updates a lot, especially the explanation of traits and whatnot. And here's an odd idea of mine, since there seems to be such a problem with the VBRUN300.dll...why not just put that file in the zip folder to begin with? Since most everyone is going to have to go download it separately and stick it in there manually (something I found a hassle with the first version). Why not just make it easier for everyone and include it in the full install version zip file? From what I remember when I had to download it from Micro$oft, it wasn't all that big of a file. But it'd make it so much more convenient for some people who aren't that computer literate. I won't tell MS if you won't. >=)

Me? I just copied the file from my older version of your program and pasted it over. Works like a charm.

Taceas,
You've convinced me. The next release (whenever that is) will include the VBRUN file. The funny thing is, when the original version was released, the 300K or so for the VBRUN file was considered big for most downloaders (2600 baud was pretty much state of the art). Plus, so much shareware was written in VB 3.0 that 'everyone' had the file anyway. Times change...

Uhm, I'm having a bit of a problem moving/deleting the program. I accidentally downloaded the files to the wrong folder, and when I tried to move it, it said that I needed permission to move the files. Also, when I tried to delete the program, so that I could just redownload it to the correct folder, it said I also needed permission to do that also. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Also, when I start the program, it doesn't immediately pop up. There's a long delay time. Actually, it seems like the program only opens when it feels like it or after I bring my computer out of hibernation. I really don't know what's going on.

I am currently using windows vista and am the administrator. So, I shouldn't be having any trouble, at least on the os side, deleting or moving the program. Can anyone help me out? I'm really at a lost on what to do.

Alright. Nevermind, I fixed the problem. I just had to restart my computer. Anyway, so I was trying to calculate the offspring for opal x snow but the program said that "Database already exists", and then the program closed. Whats going on?
