hi, i have an albino corn snake and i just noticed tonight when i was looking at him that one scale was peeled up and underneeth it was a dark red. my snake has lots of high red on him, so i have no idea if its a tick or just his color. he doesnt seem to be acting up or unusual, just more active at night now. i heard that mites come out at night, would that be why hes so active??, or just because hes nocturnal... is it possible for just a random scale to be pulled up if hes rubbed it on something?? or shed just one scale way ahead of his normal shedding period/???????
i really need help because i live an hour away from any pet store that would know about this.

thanks.

My snake doesn't really follow a schedule for shedding, she's shed in 3 week to 1.5 month intervals.
As far as night activity, she is definitely more active at night. She does cruize around some during the day, but at night she is almost always out and strung through several hides.

How long have you had your snake? What size is it?

I think the scale thing will be dependent upon your examination, we can't see it. Try to see if it is a scale under it, or if it looks like the other scales. If you missed the "blue" period before his shed you still might be able to see the loose old skin at the edge of the scales. When my snake is ready to shed the skin "wrinkles" when she curls her body.

sorry man, thanks for your help, but i just pulled off the scale, there was one underneath, it was probably just a pre mature peice of skin that was rubbed....
ive had my snake for about 5 months, its 20".
